Matt Love (bass, guitar, vocals), Leonardo Faria (keyboards, samples, vocals), Lulina (guitar, percussion, vocals), Du (guitar, percussion, horns), Bruno (drums), Six (bass), The Fazz (vocals) Ana Shio (vocals) met while working as waiters in a Brazilian Steakhouse in Washington DC. Leo, Lu, Du, Six, Bruno and the Fazz and Ana are Brazilian, Matt just pretends to be. Over time they discovered that they had a remarkable number of things in common - they were all members in bands where they were supporting talented and charismatic, but stubbornly independent leaders. Their creative lives were characterized by periods of frenetic creative activity, and stretches of inactivity.
Why this name?
They found it ironic in the extreme that they were working as waiters until they could become rawk stars - but they were waiters in their creative lives as well. Over a steaming platter of steaks they were serving to a congressional delegation, they decided to form their own band, and use it as a vehicle to display their unique talents. They named themselves the Waiters so that they would never forget why they formed this band.
Do you play live?
The Waiters played Live at the Bar B in Sao Paulo on January 11, 2008. See http://www.last.fm/event/465998. It was all magical.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has made the only band that matters, The Waiters, possible, that is the main impact it has had.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We would sign with Slag or K or Kill Rock Stars if an offer was made!
