Boreal was previously known as Fall the Loss, a four-piece including the members of Boreal and Dustin Fisher on drums. We released one four song EP, "The Intricacies of Form" before Dustin left. Afterwards, a new name was given to the band and work on a new album began. The album, to be released in late 2010, will feature "Stale" from the previous EP and 13 more new tracks.
Why this name?
Boreal forests grow across the whole of Canada, we live right on the southernmost part of this stretch of forest. It's a really weird and serene type of forest. We realized a lot of the art we were doing was foresty and we were always calling parts of our songs foresty so we decided we should go with it as a theme. Boreal... creepy magical forest prog...
Do you play live?
As Fall the Loss, the band played regularly around southern Ontario and was beginning to gain a fanbase, though with the loss of our drummer we stopped playing for a while. Once the album is finished we will begin performing again and start the long road of promoting an album in an over-saturated market.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The music business is about to switch completely onto the internet so instead of fighting it bands should learn to utilize it. Though it will be different than the traditional music business it could be one of the greatest things for the industry. Now music will be available to everyone in the world, all the time.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
As an independent band we like to do everything ourselves, but you never know!
