I'm Alex Spalding, I own & run the net-label Noise-Joy (http://www.noise-joy.org). MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/thealexspalding
Why this name?
It's the name I was given at birth, simple enough.
Do you play live?
Not currently but will eventually. Anyplace probably. I don't think I'll like it much since I'm not a "performer" really, sort of the opposite, but I'm interested in doing "anti-performances" and still working up the concept. I've played with other people, it's usually always pretty ghey.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The industry itself rarely changes much, it's all about commodity & sales. The mp3 thing is similar to tapes in that they are easily copied at home and distributed, but mp3s being as they are completely digital and unattached to any sort of physical medium (besides the computer) allows artists or fans to send out endless copies across the world (potentially) and, as it was with the tapes, the industry tries to do what it can to crackdown on any new technology that might "damage" their sales. F*** them.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No.
Your influences?
Music itself is the influence, also anything obscure, noisy, abrasive, funky, cold; old synths, drum machines, poly-rhythmic stuff, ambient sounds, electronic hardcore, dada, etc.
Favorite spot?
None.
Equipment used:
Computers, synths, tapes, random things.
