Basin is the music of singer/songwriter Jake Davis: songs focused on well-crafted lyrics sung with a blend of fragility and passion in the tradition of great Americana songwriters such as Willie Nelson and Ryan Adams. Basin is music that speaks to every man.

Why this name?
Basin is a low place on the horizon or a place to wash things away.
Do you play live?
Yes, mostly around Lawrence, Ks. I like it, but it is the writing that is most fulfilling.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It removes the barriers that kept music from being heard. But at the same time it takes away the traditional filters that helped screen out the crap.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It depends on how bad they wanted to screw me.
Your influences?
Nine Inch Nails brought me out of the pop world of childhood. But Ben Folds and Wilco made me want to play music. That brought me to appreciate the old country such as Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash that my Dad listened to. And Bright Eyes, Ryan Adams, Beck, The Pixies, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, and The Cure are perenial favorites.
Favorite spot?
Lawrence, Ks all the way
Equipment used:
Live I use a Taylor acoustic, Fender MusicMaster Bass Amp, and Boss DS-1. To record I use an old Jaymar toy piano, Reason, and an old no name Mandolin and Banjo.
Anything else...?
I had a demo get into the hands of Ashley Simpsons A&R a couple years ago, about 6 months before her then-boyfriend Ryan Cabrerra released a song with a nearly exact version of the chorus from one of my songs.. perhaps it is only a coincidence...
