Hi I'm Rachel Stewart and I sing songs for the melancholic, the emotionally bruised, and those of us lucky enough to be getting laid. That's right, I make a mean modern day torch song. With my beloved musical partner, Kyle Drury, we just finished recording our EP in October- and are very proud. Kyle is a great song writer with influences from The Beatles, Of Montreal, and loads of good bands that mix experimental sounds with pop and folk. And I was raised on old country and older jazz. My biggest musical influences have been Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Mariah Carey, Mirah, Feist, Regina Spektor, Jenny Lewis, Faith Hill, Stevie Knicks, Lauryn Hill, Cat Power.
Why this name?
Since I was seven years old I have planned on naming my hypothetical daughter 'Savannah'. In case anything ever happens to me, I want you to Tell Savannah....
Do you play live?
Yes. We want to play more. We need a manager to book us gigs because it's difficult for me to book all the shows I'd like being distracted with school. I'll skip school to perform though. We have played at The Red Vic Hotel, Beale Street Bar, Brainwash Cafe, Barefoot Coffee, Sweetwater.. We want to perform more!
special moments... The most special moment I ever had performing was when I was much younger (age 14 or so) and I used to do charity work singing at retirement centers and an old lady came up to me and confused me for her granddaughter and started crying telling me how proud of me she was... it was heartbreaking.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Most obviously it makes music so accessible. Negative being people steal it. Positive being more people hear it. I believe in abundance and that this files we share on the internet are so fascinating because the cost to the environment to share your favorite music with people is so minimal as compared to CD's and physical forms of distribution. The challenge is to see how we find new ways of supporting our artists and seeing how artists use their democratic popularity online to feed themselves and garner support from their communities.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yea probably. After we've established our sound.
Band History:
