Hello, my name is Matt Fawson. I write music, play both Electric & Classical Guitar and arrange pieces of music on occasion too. I am studying Popular music with music technology at the University of Derby where I am also currently residing. During my stay in Derby I have become a member of the band Last Impressions that play a few gigs around the city from time to time.

Do you play live?

I don't play any of my own material live at the moment although I hope to in the near future. Currently I'm doing gigs with my band Last Impressions around Derbyshire and in the process of writing some fresh songs for the band.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

I believe that the internet has changed how we listen to music and gives us a wider range of music that we can access easily without having to buy a pile of albums. It also lets budding musicians from all over the world create music profiles and allows them to upload their own songs so other people can hear their material.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Currently I have no desire to sign up to a major record label and I am carrying on writing the music that I enjoy performing and recording.

Band History:

I started writing and recording music in sixth-form when I had access to a small recording studio on the college grounds. I currently do recording either in my compact home studio or at the Studio in the University of Derby campus.

Your influences?

I've had a variety of music influences over the years. I can't be bothered to name them all so I'll just say a couple: Jimi Hendrix, BB King. From a young age I've developed a taste in Classic Rock, Blues and various other pop artists like the Beatles.

Favorite spot?

I was born in Sheffield and have lived there for the majority of my life so it's always been a home to me, so I suppose it's one of my favourite (with a total bias) city in the UK.

Equipment used:

Electric/acoustic Guitars, Drum Machines (featured on Reason software) and ocassionally vocals tracks.
