Artist Interview
An Exclusive with Tony

Tony at Club

Tony studied the violin since he was 6 years old. His mom would always push him to practice. He had a rough childhood growing up with parents separated for a long time and lived in many parts of the States, traveling back and forth between Taiwan and the US.

When his family finally got together after five years, his father refused to let him continue music. Feeling distraught, Tony studied on his own and started producing and singing.

He was a memeber of All State Orchestra, selected as finalist for Governor School of Music, etc.

Below is an exclusive interview with the artist and SoundClick

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

Tony: I think it changed the industry a lot. If it wasn't for mp3 and the internet, I would never have thought of producing my own music the way I want and feel. It has brought some open doors.

Your influences?

Tony: M-flo has been my biggest influence. When I first heard them in HS I was astounded by their versatility and ability to mix different genres and sound good.

I am also deeply inspired by Monkey Majik, more of my style of music. They made me wanna sing and go to Asian country to teach English.

Other than that I like various musical artists including Death Cab, Jack Johnson, The Strokes, Snow Patrol...

But my music doesn't limit to just one genre. I'm just not all that into "today's" Hip/Hop and popular stuff.

Favorite spot?

Tony: NYC, Taipei, but the best place to be is with friends who care and make you happy

Equipment used:

konnektliveTony: I started with Cool Edit Pro (now evolved into Adobe Audition) and Fruity Loops. I had some ideas and wanted to put it on something more tangible than just paper and voice.

Then I used Sonar on a Toshiba, it was great... allow me to do a lot of things I wasn't aware of. But my laptop reached it's limit so I decided to run Macbook Pro with Logic and Reason
Anything else...?

Tony: I believe in following one's heart
