Yo it's Marlon n' Julian here. We're an RnB group called Full Effect and recently started getting serious about our music. We started out sampling tracks around age 13, writing lyrics here and there for fun. When we turned 14 we started getting serious and made original tracks with Logic Pro. We took turns making lyrics for each song and right now we are using Reason to update our old tracks, so until we complete them we won't be adding any tracks soon.
Why this name?
When we were younger we used to always say, "It's the Booker Boyz in full effect," in our songs. Our friends loved that phrase so we used it as our new group name.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's changed a lot. Now you can go out and buy CD's in an instant on iTunes and Napster instead of having to go to a record store. They're going out of business 'cause of that. But it's good and convenient, especially for indie artists out there who want to distribute their music. Like Snocap. You can submit your mp3s and they'll distribute it for you, right on your website. It's also easier for artists to advertise their new songs, which is important so others know what's in store for their next CD.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course. We're ready to do whatever it takes to make it big. Right now we have our dad helping us make our tracks even better, and once we record the vocals we're ready to send a demo tape to some good producers out there.
Your influences?
Omarion, B2K, Usher, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown. Big name artists like those influence us a lot. But who could forget the King of Pop, Michael Jackson? We listened to the J5 alot with our dad, who was a big fan. A lot of the bass we put in our tracks aren't simple, one-note-per-beat sorta things. They have value and fullness. That's when you need to go back to the roots of music. Luther Vandross has a great voice and it would be a lie to say he doesn't influence us. He's up there among the artists with the greatest voices. Our last influence, who is our tutor and makes sure our beats sound the best, is our dad. He always gives us constructive critism and shows us all the little things that make a beat hot. So hot no one can touch it.
Favorite spot?
California has to be our favorite state. We were born there and grew up there. We haven't been back in a while but it still holds an important place in our hearts.
Equipment used:
Behringer Keyboard, Reason 4.0, not much but it's a good start
