Chaos Con Queso

We are a so-called, "Emotive Nintendocore," band from a culturally devoid place in upstate New York called Schenectady (51h8). We use synths that sound like oldschool video game noises, a cello, ONE guitar (as in, not two), a bass with lots of effect pedals, and loud drums. Our singer has an afro and freaks the f*** out on stage. He screams a lot and can't sing, but has a distinct voice. We are the revolution. We are sincere, true, passionate music that won't be compromised. We write songs that we like writing, and we don't follow rules or formulas while doing it.
We have a MySpace page and you should totally go to it, add us, comment us, and listen to our songs (in no specific order).<3
Why this name?
It's Spanglish for, "Chaos with cheese." No, none of us are Hispanic. Actually, none of us even speak Spanish fluently. It was just a name that slid off of our bassist's tongue during one of our first practices, and it's stuck ever since. And it's also become a very accurate description for the music we make and the live performances we put on. Sorry, Mexico.<3
Do you play live?
Yes, we play live. And we rock the f*** out. And we confuse people a little with our energy and weird sounds. Playing live is the most fulfilling feeling available, better than sex OR drugs. We have yet to play outside of the 518, but we plan on going on an east coast tour this summer '08. We've opened for some of our favorite bands, like HORSE the band, Fair To Midland, Karate High School, Secret Lives of the Free Masons, Trophy Scars, The Natalie Fight, and Red Light Green Light. It was fun. We plan on doing this over and over and over. We just want kids to be pleasantly surprised and to dance, instead of being bored and disappointed.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Internet = free advertising. If you can become known on the Internet, you've got the first step to underground or mainstream fame complete. And that's pretty cool. Especially for obscure, experimental bands like us who would otherwise never been seen or heard by anyone.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes. But only on certain grounds. We'd have to have complete control and ownership of all of our music, have complete decision-making over what tours we play, what we do with our music, how we perform, what we say, and where we say it. A record label's job is just to help us financially and do everything within their promotion capabilities to make us known. Unfortunately, most labels are not like that, so if we were to ever sign to a label, it'd have to be a really popular indie label, since they're the ones trying to keep music alive and true.
Band History:
We originally started out as a drum and keyboard project between davegunn and Davey Jones called f***! the band. Some instrumentals were recorded with a digital camera. Then other members gradually fell into it and we decided to be serious and make real songs with several instruments and vocals. First, Trevor came with guitars. Then Dave Greer came with bass. Then Stephen was recruited on cello. And lastly, Kevin was chosen for vocals, even though his first try-out left several bits of equipment broken.
Our official birthday is November 23rd, 2005.
Along with being one of the only bands in the local music scene trying to do something different, exciting, fun, and original, we're also probably the poorest. We all come from extremely different musical backgrounds and we think it kinda is evident in each of our songs, which almost always sound different from each other. Hating bands who are fake assholes, we try to be as genuine as possible: We answer all messages and comments by hand, sell all our merch for as cheap as possible, use all the money we make to make more merch, and always try to make friends with our listeners and the bands we play with (even if we hate 'em). We also try to provide a VERY energetic live show, because we like to have fun and want you to have fun, too. We've been a band for a little over a year now and have played a buncha shows, opened for some bands we really love (HORSE the band, Fair To Midland, Trophy Scars, Red Light Green Light, Robot Goes Here, Karate High School, and Secret Lives of the Free Masons), recorded and released one eight-track demo and one ten-track full-length, participated in several local battle of the bands (and lost all of them), been played on a Canadian electro-rock podcast, and are gradually building a decent fanbase locally and all over the country via MySpace. Hopefully, we'll be touring in summer '08.
We remain humble and sincere. We like doing what we do. And it's something we intend to keep doing, without caving into the banal mainstream of fashion-based radio music. We plan on eventually punching the world in the face (or giving it a big hug), slowly but surely.
