OAF is finally the vehicle for me to give a purpose to my music. I believe that OAF should deliver fun, emotive, quality songs and I hope that with your comments it will help me deliver.
Why this name?
The band name was a frustrating process for me and my best mate Paul (Bispatial). We came to the conclusion that I am one! It's just fun and simple. Trying to think of one has been a nightmare just the pressure of it to get something. So I finally bit the bullet and decided. So I can now concentrate on my music.
Do you play live?
Haven't played live yet, but it is definitely something I strive for. Would love to share it and for people to like it would be amazing.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
For the better. It has opened up so much music to everyone through various sites. Which gives people a chance to view an get inspired, motivated and encouraged to pick up an instrument or write some songs and put them on the web.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course. I think if I felt it was right, it would give me the opportunity to do something I love on a larger scale.
Band History:
I started playing the bass and drums badly in a band as a kid. It gave me a taste of music first hand. Writing songs wasn't a priority for me at the time. Eventually I turned my hand to writing. So over the years I have found a way that works for me. Although it is still hard! I started to record with open mic then eventually progressed to four track tape and then 8 track digital. I now use a Apple and Garageband to put my ideas down on. I play guitar which will always be present in my songs I think. So I am at this point with not a lot to show song wise, but with a lot to say so the focus now is to get an album done that I can be proud of.
Your influences?
Over the years I focussed on listening to a lot of music from all genres and will listen to most things. Rock, Blues, Motown, Soul, Pop, Indie anything. But my main influences would be soul and blues they emote so much emotion through a voice and a well played blues guitar. Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke but also Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green and SRV. I admire anyone who can perform live and give a believable performance.
Favorite spot?
There is a place in Scotland which is special to me and always evokes positive emotion but that is for me. Any open space with nature, sea and wind is always good for the soul.
Equipment used:
I use a G5 apple mac and Garageband to record and a Tascam US-122 usb midi interface to play my guitars through. I have a Roland PC-300 midi controller to play in sequences and chords etc. My guitars are a Black n White Japanese Fender Telecaster 68' re-issue, USA Custom Cherry Wine Gibson Les Paul Studio and also a Yamaha Acoustic. For vocals a Samson S2 Mic.
Anything else...?
I hope you enjoy the music and there is more to come from OAF. My aim is to bring life to the songs and ideas that have been evolving over the years. All your comments will inspire me to be a better musician and songwriter.
