Why this name?

217 comes from the area code that all of our artists live in.

Do you play live?

Not currently. We would love to do live shows, but unfortunately, we haven't been able to get any demos out to local promoters.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

The internet changes the music industry by exposing artists to the whole world, allowing independent artists and labels to become known worldwide.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

NO WAY IN HELL, MAJOR LABELS EXPLOIT THE ARTIST FOR THEIR OWN GREEDY AGENDAS. MAJOR LABELS ARE A CURSE TO MUSIC.

Band History:

217 Records was started in 2006 by MC Assassin and his little brother JB. Since then, 217 Records has struggled to get off the ground, and has survived solely on Assassin's determination to put out real music by real artists. Originally, Assassin intended the label to be for himself only, but changed his mind when he realized that to deny signing anyone to his label, he would be doing the same bullshit that 98% of major and independent record labels do.

Our artists have a wide variety of influences, from hip-hop to punk rock, jazz to reggae.
