Band History:
The Sweaters are a 4-piece folk-punk band from Long Island, New York. Consisting of melodic folk harmonies and a fast punk rhythm, they are found playing any venue that will let them inside. Although their current lineup has remained unchanged for most of the past year, The Sweaters have been made up of numerous different members over the years, each contributing their own influence to help shape the sound and style that exists today. Created by front man John Warren during the waning months of his previous band, Hello Operator, it existed as himself, a harmonica and a acoustic guitar. He played open mics and coffee houses. Soon he was able to work with Steve Barry and The Sweaters became an acoustic guitar and drums act. The music was very experimental while remaining as always strongly folk. After a time, John reverted back to being a solo acoustic artist. Continuing to play shows he eventually was able to bring bassist Steve Pallas into the project after previously playing with him in Damn the Man. With Steve's assistance, John began to record an ep entitled Songs to Pass the Time in the summer of 2006. Steve helped to get a new drummer, Joe Brown (not his real name) and they continued to record and rehearse. At the last moment before beginning to play a string of shows, both Joe and Steve left the band unexpectedly. Now without a backing band, John asked his friends Tommy Tranfaglia and Tom Hanley to play in support of him temporarily. After performing a show in the winter of 06/07, Tom Hanley decided to stay in the band while Tommy Tranfaglia left. John then mentioned his dilemma to a friend and promoter of shows, Ryan McCauley. After Ryan told John he played drums and was willing to play with him, the three practiced in early February of 2007. Continuing John's folk/indie style while now introducing more of a punk rock sound, The Sweaters played their first show as a trio at Glen Cove Lanes. Although things went wrong and there weren't many people watching, they played out their set and enjoyed every minute of it. They started to write more music and continue to creatively bomb shows. By the spring, long time friend of the band, Pete Cianciotto joined the group. They continued to work their sound and improve as a whole. By the summer, John released demos he had recorded while with his old lineup that prior winter and the band played numerous shows all over Long Island. For a folk/punk band, in a “scene” that has been exclusively reserved for emo, screamo and hardcore, they have earned themselves a reputation as a band serious about their music and entertaining.

Anything else...?
We recognize that we're kind of an unusual band in a scene that is predominantly focused on metalcore and emo. Because of this, we are extra appreciative of any support that people show - whether it be a compliment, helping us get a show, recording us, or coming to a show. It doesn't go unnoticed! We do these things because this is what we love to do - make music. This band isn't a vehicle for "making it" or "getting big". In our opinion, we've already accomplished our dream. As long as we're in a band, making music, and playing shows, what more could we want?
