Gotti J is going to be the first major hip-hop artist out of North Carolina!
Why this name?
I had a dream where my dead cosin was talking to me and I noticed a tat on my mama right wrist that said "Go Gotti J" when I woke up I realized that my mama didn't really have a tat right there so I was thinking my dead cousin was telling to vibe with that.
Do you play live?
Yeah I do what I can when I can. No real special moment right now but soon I believe I'll have a truning point.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
it opens up a new world where people can hear new artist that they might not of heard because of where they stay, it also allow bootleggers to steal music on the other hand.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yeah no question, right now I'm working on Aftermath and Interscope, but just getting off the ground is what I want right now.
Band History:
Born on Morningside Drive in Burlington. Nicknamed Eleven Hundred Block in North Bucktown by local gang members. Burlington is known mostly because it's high crime rate. Gotti J was exposed to a lot of drug dealers, gang members, and what are called stick up kids, as a young man. He was the youngest of 2 boys and 1 girl. Gotti J started rapping at 8 years old because the thugs he ran behind was doing it. It was clear then that Gotti J could ride a beat and maybe he could be a rapper for a living. A young Gotti real name Je'an-Mychal was called "Lil Kayce" and "New Born" by the older kids because his brother was named "Marquis" (mark-keyce) When he was 16 he started rapping with J.O from Maryland, and Otis a local rapper. He stoodout from most of the local artist because he was younger then them. Je'an-Mychal at 16 was battling 25 and 26 year old men and was called the king of North Carolina. Still none of his peers thought that he could make it was named 4th and sometimes 5th best rapper in his highschool. As a freshman he was named 2nd best but as a senior he was named 5th. Even after he drop 3 mixtapes that soldout in CD stores in Burlington. After taking a brake from making songs Gotti J came back as 1 of the hottest rapper in Bucktown. He released The Icon mixtape that he worked on for a year and a half. Then 18 year old Gotti had fans not only in his city but throw out North Carolina, South Carolina, North Georgia, East Tennasse, Virginia, and his songs was blowing up in California meanly because of his friendship with Dr. Dre, and The Game. The young rapper openned a concert in Texas for Rock-n-Roll group Nickalback. Nickalback asked 18 year old Gotti J to open for them the rest of the tour but Gotti turned down there offer. Gotti J when back to North Carolina and won the battle with fellow North Carlina and DTP artist Brolic D of Norf Clk. Gotti J has released the long awaited name of his next mixtape "Tha Fix" and he lets some secrets out the beg saying "I'll like to thank Dre for getting me out the hood, I'll like to thank Jimmy Iovine for getting me out the hood!" Now 19 year old Gotti J might be going to Aftermath Interscope Records. He has said that artist such as "Akon, The Game, J.O, Wise, Young Will, and Stat Quo" was on Tha Fix along with some of N-4-Red artist. Gotti J has created a record label in Burlington that house so of the hottest rappers in North Carolina and Virginia. Also R&B unsigned hype Young Will.
Your influences?
The people that listens to me, my fans. I make music for people how like me so that I don't let them down. Haters don't really drive me. Also N.O.R.E was my biggest influence because I just loved his songs so much it drove me to make my own.
