Matt Pahler

Matt Pahler's anchored-in-acoustic indie rock sound is nothing shy from being a bright beacon of originality. More than just a man strumming guitar and effusing, Pahler emits true emotional grit in his songs, offering genuine humanity and entertainment value in each and every song. One can't help but be drawn in by rich melodies, able guitar playing, and intimate lyrics that will leave you feeling as if you have gotten know Pahler with deep personal level. It's honest songwriting, and it's talented music.

Lows and Highs

Life has plenty of lows but music is one of its highs, and what a high it is. In fact, music dips into the heart of darkness to bring out the light. Such is the job of the songwriter. When songwriting is at its peak, the artist himself is rewarded, too, along with the listener. “Music makes me feel so high,” says Pahler, “like everything else is completely irrelevant in the moment where I am performing or writing music.”

Natural

Pahler says that songwriting is a process of opening up and just letting go of the world for a while. “Worries just melt away,” he says. “Words and music that I've never heard before just start coming out.” Such a creative process is what creates such organic, compelling music. Music that is real, and feels real, and gives the listener a piece of someone else’s life they can relate back to themself. “Music is life. It's what keeps people breathing. Sound is what fills our voids.”

The Artist at Work

Pahler has been busy performing with his dedicated band, Ambiguous Tone. He also keeps himself busy with copious writing. When he's wrapped up a batch of songs, it's off to the studio. “I write a bunch of new material, then hit the studio to record all of it,” he says. Speaking of which, his first 8-song EP has just hit the streets. It's called “The Dormroom” and is a product of DIY love. “It includes a lot of songs that I wrote during my first two semesters of college, which was basically an emotional rollercoaster for me.” He is currently working with A&R Select, the leading indie A&R firm in Hollywood, CA.

“Pahler's music is gentle yet firm, revealing the heart of a man without diluting the strength of one.” - A&R Select

Why this name?
its my name, and usually solo artists just go with that.
Do you play live?
I play live very frequently- i play open mics regularly around Flagstaff downtown area, usually Applesauce Teahouse and Mogollon Brewery, and as a result I've gotten more attention. I also play at Campus Coffee Bean for solo gigs, and occasionally other venues. I love playing live because it shows people that you are a legitamate musician- it takes very limited talent to record songs, but to perform them live and impress is a whole diffrent aspect of the game, and i love it.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
it most definetely holds possibilities for the emerging artists like myself out there. I have heard of several that have gone big just by using internet tools, such as sites likes this (myspace, purevolume, etc). Truly amazing what technology can do...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes. In fact, its my dream to one day be signed and making music as my career.
