Stephan Kleinert and Laura Dietrich form the nucleus of the Germany based Alternative Pop project "Botany Bay". Supported by an ever-changing cast of guests, Laura and Stephan spent the last few years recording their new album "Grounded", which was released in October 2007.

Aiming towards creating a world of its own in their music, "Grounded" is an organic mixture of world music, experimental pop and rock, augmented with classical arrangements and concentraing on the piano as the main instrument.
Do you play live?
We played an acoustic live set at the release party of our new album. We would love play live mor often, but since the both of us have quite stressful occupations, there's not really the time to do more events. At least not at the moment.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The music industry is at a dead end, and it has been for years. Its not the fault of mp3s or illegal downloads, it's just about profit orientation and not taking risks. mp3 and the internet has become the new underground, a trend that is going to continue.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yeah, we probably would. But we would insist on putting our work under a creative commons license. There's nothing wrong in charging listeners for nice album artwork, live perofrmances and an attractive packaging. But the music has to be heard. If we'll ever reach a wider audience, we'll achieve this with the help of the internet, not with the help of any label. If they wanted to help us, they had done that in the past 15 years.
