I am also a member of the legendary Hiphop group Prophetix with emcee Eddie Meeks and DJ Jon Doe.
I have been involved with Hiphop in its various expressions since 1979. Among other accomplishments, I have toured with the one and only Blastmaster KRS-ONE, rocked shows with The Roots, Slum Village, Talib Kweli, MF DOOM, Ras Kass, and more.
I also did a brief stint at the World Famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem. Notice I said brief. LOL!
Why this name?
Mello was a nickname given to me in college and Melanin was agreed upon by both Eddie Meeks and myself. He came up with it and I thought it was dope and ran with it.
Do you play live?
Yes I do play live. Anywhere that will book me is generally where I will go. To many special on stage moments to really pick one.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think the Internet has definitely changed the music industry. It has basically leveled the playing field and artist like myself can get our music heard by a worldwide audience for pennies. It still takes alot of hard work though. The mp3 has truly revolutionized the game as well. They allow artist to be more flexible in so many aspects of the business.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yup, I'm not a fool though. There are lawyers that will help me negotiate something like that. I know alot about the business but its better to hire a good entertainment attorney to help out. But regardless I'm still independent and that would have to be factored into the agreement some kinda way.
