Welcome to the The Vending Machine Heart.
Why this name?
Stuart: One day at work I was asked about the possibility of having a snack vending machine installed in the cafeteria area. For some reason vending machine stuck in my head as I thought it sounded like an interesting name for a band but though that it needed another word to go with it. I added the word heart to the end and there was the band name - The Vending Machine Heart.
Do you play live?
Yes we play live at venues in the South of England. Stuart likes playing live more than Jason. The weirdest moment so far was playing a festival and half way through the set a large group of street drummers passing by playing at full volume. We had a go at competing by playing our delicate acoustic songs as loud as we could.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Like everything there are positives and negatives to the internet's impact on the music industry. As an artist it is great that you can make music, get it to a large audience, and make a name for youself using the internet. The downside is that music is being a little devalued by people expecting music to be free when it takes time, effort and money to create.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Band History:
The Vending Machine Heart is Jason Applin and Stuart Wills. They formed the Vending Machine Heart and started writing acoustic based songs after finding that they had a common admiration for many of the same songwriters - in particular Elliot Smith. The Vending Machine Heart’s music has been described as two parts Elliot Smith to one part Simon & Garfunkel.

Jason currently fronts The Head Club who have recently released their first long player.

Stuart is a singer-songwriter and an accomplished live performer and has just re-released his first solo album. In the 90s he was the lead singer of the band Sand and also lead guitarist in the five piece Savalis.
