A lot of people place the title of prodigy on any young artist that makes it into the industry but Gary, IN raised/Atlanta residing emcee T-Woolly has it down to a science. The self-proclaimed prodigy of hip-hop is an artist with a mind beyond the normal young artist. At the age of 19 he's released 4 solo projects on his own that showcase his incredible lyrical and song making ability. With new ideas and innovations always sparking up in his mind it's hard to know what he'll cook up next but know that it's going to be a meal that will always have you craving for more.
Why this name?
I wanted a name that was recognizable and different at the same time. The woolly mammoth is a creature that fits my personality so well in many aspects that I came up with the original name Tuskus Woolly. When it became hard for people to say I shortened to just T-Woolly. But I have so many nick names it's hard to keep track.
Do you play live?
I have a few times but I want to focus on my record making skills before I start performing regularly. Nobody goes to see an artist who's songs suck right?
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is a great help for up and coming artists like myself. We're not dependent on A&R's, demo tapes, and labels to make a name for ourself. Without the internet it would be a lot harder for my music to reach the places that it has.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Only a few, Blacksmith Music and GOOD Music as far as majors others will have to come with the right numbers and paper work. I'd also sign with Stones Throw, Nature Sounds, and Rhymesayers too.
Band History:
I've been rapping for 6 years and doing music for 4. My first release was an EP called Soul's Neo Lyricist. I then relesed the records 88: Year Of The Prodigy and The Primigenious. And just recently an internet mixtape called Scripts Of My Slumber. I'm currently working on an unoffical collaboration album with Metal Fingers called Chrome & Ivory which should be out early 2008.
Your influences?
Talib Kweli and MF DOOM. Without these too I wouldn't make the music I love. Also there's Kanye West, Mos Def, Common, Jean Grae, Biggie, Pac, Masta Ace, Madlib, DangerMouse, 9th Wonder, J Dilla(RIP), Punchline, Wordsworth, Strong Arm Steady, and a lot more.
Favorite spot?
I love ATL but my real home is Chicago and Gary, IN.
Equipment used:
Protools, Reason, Mac's, Mic's, Headphones, Pen and Paper, and My Incredible Skill
