Welcome y'all to H. Souths' music page. As you may or may not know, I am an affilliate of Sic1Eight, and you can check music out there at www.soundclick.com/sic1eight. I also own Craft and Trade Ent., and multi faceted entertainment company covering a large portion of the Sic1Eight area. I'm a producer, beatmaker, hip hop artist, DJ (but not a great one), and audio engineer. I'm basically self taught other than the mad scientist Mr. Roush showing me the way.
Why this name?
One of my favorite on screen characters was Doc Holiday, but that name was taken, so I kept the Holiday, and added South because I am from Southern Illinois, or the "So Ill"
Do you play live?
We do shows, meaning Sic1Eight, at local clubs and what not. Hip Hop doesn't get a lot of love around here locally, so shows aren't as available as I would like.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has changed the game immensely. You can get your music out to the millions with the click of a button. It saves time there, but it's still good to hussle the streets.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Well that all depends on the numbers and stipulations. I really would rather just sign a distribution deal, and retain control of my music.
Band History:
I started to take my music seriously in 2005 when I met Mr. Roush and visited his studio. We used to just kick it and record over instrumentals and put out more mixtape style music. People started to like the music, and things started to develop into shows and albums, etc. Mr. Roush had a group called Sic1Eight that consisted of a number of local artists, and the studio was always a fun place to be, but I wanted the luxury of having my own, so I started to build my own. I hit the books, and took some online private courses with Daniel Rowland at www.theonlineaudioschool.com and that really blew the lid clean off. Check him out, he will show you the world of audio. I started to produce my own beats, and am still in that phase, but that's a little history on your boy H. South.
Your influences?
Bun-B, Jay-Z, E-40, Eminem, Celly Cell, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Camron, and anyone that has been successful in hip hip in my opinion. By my opinion, I don't mean financially successful. That doesn't equal quality music these days.
Favorite spot?
My favorite spot is without question the studio, but my favorite place to kick it is Mesa Lake, whenever I can get out there.
Equipment used:
Pro Tools LE 8 with Digi 002 Control Surface. Reason 4.0 with the Big Reason refill, Sonic Refills Gold, Exode Synthesis Refill, Adobe Audition, Recycle. AKAI MPK49. Yamaha PSR 275. Anything else...?
Much love to the artists out there that make their own beats, mix and master their own music, and grind on the web and in the street to promote it. I recognize your grind, and keep on keeping on.
