Jonny Durango writes a diverse mix of rockin songs in different genres from hardcore rap/metal to blazing flamenco guitar, political motown, knee-slappin rockabilly and everything in between! The only thing you WILL NOT see on this page is whiney country, teeny-bop pop and techno. I HAAAATE techno!
Why this name?
Rat City is where we live, just south of Seattle. It is said to have recieved the name Rat City because at one time it was overrun by rats.
Do you play live?
We play live in garages, living rooms and bars. We like it. It is special...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The advent of the internet will revolutionize the way in which we learn and communicate in all areas. The internet will speed education and improve the quality of life for countless disconnected individuals who would otherwise perish in a vast sea of unknowning. When applied to the music industry, the internet has the ability to bring about a musical revolution as never seen before. Musicians can now listen to nearly any song or style of music with just a few clicks of the mouse. By utilizing readily available internet tablature, lyrics sheets, chord dictionaries and downloadable lessons, a person can quickly acquire a repetoire of complex and beautiful music. This allows people to gain an almost instantaneous education in the basic foundation of good music. Combine this with a study in music theory and you get an amazing population of musicians, who are now able to communicate and exchange ideas freely with one another. Never at any time in our past has such a thing been possible. Furthermore, with the domination of mindless, soulless, pointless, hate-inspiring, overproduced and undertalented "music" in the mainstream today, this afforementioned body of truly educated renaissance musicians is even more able to restore the beauty and passion to an artform that has turned lifeless and bland.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Only if there were a stipulation in my contract allowing me to "sip Cristaaal and pop a pistaaal"...and perhaps slap some hoes.
Your influences?
EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would like to write hooks like The Beatles, write melodies like the Beach Boys, write lyrics like Notorious BIG, sing like Bradley Nowell, play guitar like Paco De Lucia, rock out like the Deftones, be super bad like James Brown and dress like Leon Redbone. It might be easier to list the few kinds of music that do NOT influence me: whiney hick country/country rock (this DOES NOT include real hillbilly stuff, rockabilly bluegrass, ragtime, etc.), cheesy teeny-bopper pop and TECHNO "MUSIC"!! I *HATE* techno with a firey passion that brews deep in the pit of my blackened soulless heart!
Favorite spot?
Haven't been there YET.
Equipment used:
some guitars, a drumset, some microphones, a bass guitar, vocal chords, some horns and keyboards...maybe some juice harps or banjos, hammers, recycling bins, broken glass, dead fish, couches, barometers, chainsaws and model rocket engines.
Anything else...?
Yeah, don't do drugs.
