Hi my names Dj Rascal I have been djing for around 10 years now and have always been involved in DnB music and dance music all the way back to its early days and before even in the old rave days. I worked as the Main Dj at the liquid nights event in birmingham with dj's like Simon Darryl (Bar Room Bar) and James Ash ( Revolution) which would move around different venues in Birmingham which included Liquid Bar, and I used to be the top bill Dj for Pops records nights which used to run in the Mono bar and So bar in the Arcadian in Birmingham which is where Hed kandi and other top bars are. I also used to be the main Dj for Pops Records Dj and Event agency along with James Ash ( Revolution) and Mark Ace. I also used to do exclusive drum and bass sets with Simlpy bliss productions along with James Ash. Two years ago I moved to the Canary Islands and I have been working as a DJ in various night clubs and bars including Waikiki where I was resident for summer 07 untill I quit over too many managers coming in, Corkys surf bar untill I quit as I focused more on my studio I have also worked at Mufasca, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Boardriders and also played at many one off partys. As far as producing my own music goes I got a computer when I was about 21 and tought myself how to make music using fruity loops and cubase cool edit pro Reason and other software I have also attended college for 2 years in evening classes and gained an N.C.F.E level 2 in music producton using cubase live recording and producing a track up the mastering stage since then my knowledge of music procduction has massively increased and I am constantly learning new techiques and production tricks. My future goals are just to continue making good music and playing my sets in bigger and better venues let's see where the future takes me !
Why this name?
Apparently I have a cheeky smile and im not shy about coming forward a few girls back in the day used to call me a cheeky rascal they called me a lot of other things but I dont think they'd be an appropiate Dj name. Anyway Rascal just kinda stuck.
Do you play live?
I Dj 3 times a week in different surf bars and I play A Baku terrace once in a while I also get to play the music I have made including mash ups of other peoples music and I have always had a fantasic response and people normaly buy my mix cds and tracks from me at the end of all the nights I dj. I have had many really good memories but most of them are when I played back in England.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well its easier to get new music and it's made it easier for people to access up and coming bands and producers and artist before they hit the big time that has to be a good thing . And obviously it means people like myself can sell my music with out having to get a record deal. My music is forsale on this site so please have a listen. Thanks
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Errr Yep in a second but i don't think that would ever happen with the type of music I make and also there are people like Roni Size and Pendulum who's music is way beyond my limitations so it would be nice but I doubt it's gonna happen.
Band History:
My name is Dj rascal I have been Djing for 10 years now and I am mainly into Drum and bass, Hip hop, Breakbeat and Nu skool breaks and House music. I have been making music now for six years and I have recently finished a N.C.F.E music production course, I am now living in the Canary islands working at my studio www.goodtimestudio.com and Djing pretty much all the rest of the time. I would like to get some of my music released as I have had tracks released on albums before and also on surf videos and dvds.
Your influences?
Drum and bass influences i'd say Aquasky, Total science, Pendulum, Logistics, John B, Ian Carey, Jonny crockett, Linkin Park, 100 reasons, funeral for a friend, Jedi Mind tricks.
Favorite spot?
Birmingham and London
Equipment used:
I have a Roland VM C7200 94Ch mixer and 48ch processor I have a PC which I run Cubase 3 SX Fruity Loops 7 Cool edit Reason 3 and lots of VST's my Favourite being Albion because of it's likeness to Virus you can make some really sick noises with it plus a load of compressors and limiters.
