J Reno, born J. Renaud, back in May of 1986, is the complete package. Artist, Producer, Designer, and the Owner of a local music promotion called Grind Zone Music. Born and Raised in Windsor Ontario, J Reno grew up on the east side of the city. With a love for hip hop & music in general at such a young age, it is no suprise that J Reno is where he is today. Releasing his first album entitled "Mangled" in early 2000, J Reno set out the foundation to what was going to be a long career in hip hop music.

After a few different spot's on local imprint's, J Reno landed a spot on a Saginaw Michigan based rap label called Deviant Productions. By this time J had already released 3 solo album's and a full compilation album, as he prepared for the release of his debut LP, which ended up being released in February 2005 called Breaking the Foundation. The album featured Michigan Underground Legend's like V Sinizter ( Former Psychopathic Records ), Menacide (Independant Michigan Rap King ) & Ghetto Devil ( Wicked Shxt Legend ). The album was printed & distributed throughout the Midwest & to many online retailers, and has recieved nothing but good responce. This album opend up many door's for J Reno.

The next project lined up with J Reno was a group album with childhood friend and current Grind Zone Music artist, IV. This project was to be called This is Real, but the album failed to meet the completion, due to the label closing it's doors in late 2005. This album ended up being a free online album, and was a huge success online.

Before the label closed it's doors, it did one final thing for J Reno. Submitting a press kit to Psychopathic Records ( ICP ), for a contest where the winner would earn a recording contract with the label. Out of thousand's of entries, J Reno ended up making it all the way to the top 5, to perform at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit.

Quickly after that, J Reno began work on a mixtape to be titled The Untouchables. During the production of this mixtape, J Reno's Breaking the Foundation was getting him some local recognition, and respect from a local DJ who in turn would end up introducing J Reno to the scene in a heavy way. J Reno was invited in to be on DJ Needle 9:14's award winning FM Radio show, where he was interviewed and a few of the track's were played. Shortly after that, J Reno became a top player in the city, and along with DJ Needle 9:14 & Miss Neenie, created WindsorHipHop.com. A website dedicated to unity of Windsor's hip hop artists & a great way to get the scene buzzing again. WindsorHipHop.com & J Reno eventually released the Untouchables mix cd and just as planned, it dissapeared within a month and a half.

During his stint with DJ Needle 9:14, J Reno was introduced to a couple emcee's from Windsor that held the city's title for the best and most notorious group for the last few years. Kayyce Closed & Trilla from Academy. During that time J began work on his next mixtape project, Ground:Zero. At the same time, Academy was working on their 4th installment of their mixtape series. Already featuring on the 3rd mixtape, J Reno was asked to feature on a song for the upcoming mixtape.

After that, Academy made J Reno an offer to record his mixtape with them, in their personal recording studio. During the recording of Ground:Zero, J Reno was offered a spot to be on the roster of Academy, and accepted. By this time J had opened for a few major artist's ( Obie Trice, Royce Da 5'9" ), and started getting his name into a much wider audience.

Working with Academy, J was growing as an artist at a much faster rate. Shortly after releasing Ground:Zero, J Reno made it a point to keep the fan's buzzing by releasing a free online album called Unleashed, as a Christmas gift to his fan's for all the dedication and loyalty. This album recieved over 1,000 download's in the span of a few day's, and nothing but complete satisfaction from the fans. After the album being available for a week and a half, J Reno recieved the word from Long Range Distribution, a distribution company out of Detroit, that they wanted the album printed. This album is on it's way to the print as this biography is being typed.

It's been a long 9 year's, and it's only the begining. We welcome everyone along for the Ride.

Your influences?
J Reno turns to life and its various manifestations for inspiration. To pull from one’s own experiences helps assure artistic honesty. “Life and all the experiences thus far inspire me.” Family is an important element of his life and offers much of the drive for J Reno’s music. “I’m also inspired by my child, who I am doing this for. Plus, there’s my upbringing and the neighborhood I was raised in. All my homies, and music!”
