Randy Stahla has played drums since grade school years, and the piano and synthesizer for 19 years. Stahla makes his home in Colorado, but loves the ocean, and his many visits to California and to the Mexican Baja shore was one of his inspirations.

Regarding his music, Stahla says, "On all 3 of my CD's, I played the instruments and made up all the beats, melodies, and arrangements by hand (from scratch). They were not created by a computer or a program that does musical loops except for some tedious tasks that were done by the computer, such as replicating a drum beat I played manually on a synthesizer keyboard. For example, I played a complex percussion part by hand (real-time) on the synthesizer over 20 measures long and then had the computer repeat that once or twice just to save time.

I have played the drums all my life and the keyboard since 1986. I have been in several bands and on musical tours throughout California, the southern U.S., 3 weeks in the Caribbean, Central America, the northwest and Canada. My roots are rock n' roll, Electronica, Classic Country, Celtic, Alternative, and Pop. I listen to almost all genres and I am always looking for new and creative ideas in music.

I have taken great care in the mixing, arranging, and recording of these songs, and I think you will like them if you really listen to more than just the first part of the song.

I like the saying that "Music is serial art," and that it is important to always give the listener something new and different; something surprising, interesting, and beautiful during each new moment of a song. I also try as hard as I can to create songs that are unlike anything out there - to give the listener a special sound you can't find anywhere else.

I often use polyrhythms, where 2 or more time signatures are played against each other. "Machine Code" is done in 5/4 time, and "Whistlers" (ambient electronica) consists of 3/4 played alongside 4/4.
Do you play live?
I've played all over the U.S. and in the Caribbean. My favorite place is the beach where I can listen to the waves, relax, and think about life.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It provides opportunities for all musicians - not just a select few that make it through a very narrow entryway.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Maybe - depends on the terms.
Band History:
This music is about a lot more than just writing a new tune. I am also a 3D animator and artist. My most recent CD, "RED ROSE," is the soundtrack for a story I am posting on my web site starting in November, 2007. I plan to release 1 new chapter per month. The goal is to animate the story, and the first animation will be a short feature that portrays the beginning of the story. My web site is www.DesertSnow.org where you can read my poetry, stories, and features.

I started writing music for this site in 2003 and now there are thousands of visitors every month from 50 - 80 countries.
Your influences?
George Winston, Bruce Hornsby, and various electronica artists, mostly indie.
Favorite spot?
Near the ocean - probably Bajamar, Mexico.
Equipment used:
Emu systems proteus 2500, 5 computers, Behringer mixers, compressors, basic studio gear.
Anything else...?
My goal is to encourage people, whatever is going on in their life. Mostly I deal with loss of various kinds on my web site. That can be anything from the loss of a loved one to the loss of your confidence for a month...
