We are a family that loves to perform and entertain. We write together, doing music and puppetry. At this time we have not yet finished our first "together" recording. I am posting my old stuff from way back in the ancient days (1982). I am purchasing some outboard recording gear in the upcoming days and I hope to start tracking in September. We will keep you posted!

The Larsen Family is:

Carlton Larsen; guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, 5 string banjo, vocals.

Debbie Larsen; guitar, piano, vocals.

Christopher Larsen; drums, percussion, guitar.

Mitchell Larsen; flute, alto sax, vocals.

David Larsen; vocals, percussion.
Why this name?
We are a family, our last name is Larsen. Complicated, eh?
Do you play live?
Yep, churches, parks, on street corners and busking pitches, parties, anywhere!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It remains to be seen what all the implications are. Time will tell!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If it involves money, yeah. I have bills and hungry kids to feed.
Band History:
Our beginning. Well, we married, and had kids! They are learning and growing as musicians too. I guess I should say more here. Some time I will!
Your influences?
Blues is the foundation of all North American musics. Jazz is of course major for any band including a saxophone! Chris is into heavy guitar sounds, and I like 'em to (Carlton). Debbie is the family folkie, and has been influenced heavily by people like Joan Bayez and Joni Mitchell. Joni of course touches everyone throughout her incredible range.

I (Carlton) grew up with country music, but got turned off by country sleaze in the '70s. Chet Atkins is all important for any guitar player, but it was the Eagles that opened my mind and ears to the rest of the world of music.
Favorite spot?
Saskatoon is a great place for music but we do miss our friends out in Kipling, the town of the big red paper clip. After 2 years back here in the biggest city in Saskatchewan (still a small town by world standards) we are trying to settle in and be at home. Always easier for kids to do than us adults.
Equipment used:
Carlton: Home built electric with classical neck and other weird characteristics. Rebuilt Harmony guitars from the '50s. El Degas banjo, chinese mandolin, Larrive classical guitar, and other various interesting but mostly cheap axes.

Debbie has a Washburn classical and a LaPatrie electric classical guitar. She plays whatever keyboard is handy.

Christopher needs a better set of drums to reflect his ability. He plays a Mountain Percussion Djembe and other pecussion, and a cheapo Yamaha accoustic, and a Strat clone electric.

Mitchell has a Blessing saxophone, a Gemeinhard and Armstrong flutes, an Armstrong piccolo and a Chinese cheapo back-up piccolo.

David is borrowing others' instruments mostly but does have his own chinese made baritone Uke.
Anything else...?
Yeah, and I will have to put some stuff here yet! Not bad though for the first day. Looking forward to using this!
