Red Candle is the name given to a band that only exists, as of yet, in cyberspace.
It began when I (Mike) wrote some songs for an album called "Arrhythmia", and made some crude, yet apparently compelling demos using synths for the arrangement.
Stephen Russell became R.C.'s first band member, when I emailed him the separate tracks from the demo for "Them", and he added other instruments, embedded the vocals, and produced/arranged the single.
The follow-up single, "Skew", also has his trademark polished, yet spaced-out production.
While Steve was engineering "Skew", I began writing a second album; "Life In The Barrens". Because the subject matter dealt with states of emotional emptiness, coupled with melodies that were a bit like Broadway show tunes, I wanted to contrast them with a strict mechanical, yet sensual feel. I'd been impressed with Karena Wynn-Moylan's ability to arrange songs with her group, EthnoTechno, and asked if she wouldn't mind attempting a couple of collaborations for this album. To my amazement, she said yes!
Now... here's where it gets complicated. While Karena and I were setting up correspondence for the "Barrens" album, I'd had an idea to do a song from a dream I had, called "The Watertank & The Table". I knew what I wanted the song to be about, and had the melody, but the words just didn't come. My wife, Mary Beth, listened patiently to me telling her the story for the song, and worked through the lyrics with me. That became the first single to utilize the full resources of the band's lineup to date. Karena did the arrangement, Mary Beth did the words, I cowrote and did vocals, and Steve produced the final version of the single, by embedding the vox for us.
We're currently working on finishing the "Barrens" album, while simultaneously trying to figure out how to bring "Arrhythmia" to life.

Follow me so far? Here's the kicker:
Mary Beth and I live in the US.
Steve lives in England.
Karena lives in Australia.
And we've never had a face to face meeting.

Hope you like what you find here, Red Candle.
