Why this name?
I had a girlfriend who was a huge Queen fan (as I am), and I had bought her the "News of the World" album. We were at her place and I was reading the lyrics and credits to one of the songs, and at the end, the credits said "Roger Taylor: drums, maracas Brian May: guitars....." and I raid "drums, maracas brain may: guitars......" HOLD ON. I reread it and then realized that what I had just said, Maracas Brain, had a certain cool ring to it, so I stored it away in my mind until the right time came along to use it.
Do you play live?
I've played live for a number of years already. Guatemala, Ecuador, Mexico, and soon we'll be heading out to other countries, too. I love playing live and giving the audience my all.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
People now have access to things they wouldn't have dreamt they would be able to listen to before.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course I would, because a major label still has all the infrastructure which one, as an independent artist, has to strive to obtain a small percentage of, and usually without help.
Band History:
The history of Maracas Brain is the history of the songs I have written throughout many years by myself, and the songs I wrote with my ex-guitarrist for the debut album of Maracas Brain.
Your influences?
My musical influences are three-fold: singers, songwriters/musicians, and showmen. Singers I go for many people, but Sting, Freddie Mercury, Jon Bon Jovi and Jack Russell (of Great White) are some of my favorites. Bass players: Sting, Geddy Lee. Songwriters: Jon Bon Jovi, Jani Lane, Sting, Billy Joel, Bernie Taupin and Elton John, Queen. Showmen: Freddie Mercury, Bon Jovi, KISS; David Lee Roth, Poison, the Rolling Stones.
Favorite spot?
Quito, Ecuador would definitely be it for me.
Equipment used:
I sing in any kind of microphone that's in front of me, but I use Shure and Behringer mics at home. Bass guitars: Fender Squier, Bass Amp: Fender, Electric and acoustic guitars: Gibson Epiphones.
