Milford, Connecticut’s SATURDAY MATINEE combines the pop sensibility of Green Day and the melodic catchiness of Fallout Boy with the power and grandiosity of Queen, creating radio-ready punk rock for the masses.
Originally formed by life-long friends Russell Lyman (guitar/vocals), Bill Laudenslager (Bass/Vocals), Pat Kish (guitar/vocals), and Ant Mastro (Drums/Keys), SATURDAY MATINEE performs together with a tightness that comes only from sharing the stage with friends who have grown up playing together.
Why this name?
We played a very catchy song in one of the singers old bands(A Chase Worthwhile) called movie night, and everyone always ended up requesting it. The idea was based off of that, I(Russ) thought it seemed like a catchy name, not too long, and easy to remember.
Do you play live?
We play out every weekend, and try to travel out of state as much as possible. We just finished a summer tour of the east/mid west this summer of 2007, and are looking to head all the way to Cali by summer of 08.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it is for the better. You are now getting your music across the globe without having to send out a million CD's to radio stations. People can just log onto the internet and find music they like any where in the world
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We def would like the opportunity to be able to sign with a major label someday
Band History:
Inspired by a shared passion for music and for rocking a live crowd, SATURDAY MATINEE recorded their first CD in 2004. Initially selling almost a thousand units out of the trunks of their cars, fans just couldn’t seem to get enough. Local shows soon led to dates booked out of state (NJ, NH, MA, and NY), and SATURDAY MATINEE watched as their fan-base grew and grew with each performance. Their second release was recorded in Long Island, New York and reflected the significant musical growth that had resulted from playing countless gigs and from sharing the stage with national acts such as Victory Artist, Catch 22, New found glory, Hoobastank, Andrew W. K., and Punchline.
Their latest, highly-anticipated recording, “Kings of This Year,” out now, and consists of 14 songs, and plans for a Christmas E.P. are in the works as well. Look for SATURDAY MATINEE on tour on the east coast this summer, and be sure to check out www.saturdaymatineerocks.com and www.myspace.com/saturdaymatinee for the latest news, tours, and merchandise. Music is available for purchase at live shows as well as www.interpunk.com, www.itunes.com, and www.snocap.com
Your influences?
We try to keep our minds open as musicians and listen to everything. We don't want to be stuck to just one genre of music. We listen to top 40 stuff as well as some underground. Always try and catch the local acts. If you had to categorize us with similar bands I would say, Simple Plan, Blink 182, New found glory, Fall out boy, All American Rejects, and The starting line.
Favorite spot?
Our favorite city would have to be Virginia Beach
