Garrick Pattenden: I am a Solo Composer of Classical Piano Music. I live in Windsor Ontario. Canada.
Why this name?
It was just a no brainer for me to choose to use my own name. I am a solo music artist.
Do you play live?
I have played in British Columbia numerous times at the BC Stadium. I loved the one year when I received a standing ovation in 1999.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has given the world a way to find music of unlimited access that otherwise would have cost people a fortune to by albums all the time especially when the individual only wants one specific piece of music from a band or solo artist, the mp3 file format allows countless hours of music while using up less space on a computer or mp3 player and the like.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I have had one once. please read the Biography below.

Biography of Garrick David Pattenden

By Stephen Thomas Erlewine 2006

Garrick David Pattenden is a British / Canadian-born composer/pianist/guitarist. Garrick Pattenden scored a minor U.K. hit in 1978 with "From a Sidewalk Cafe." It wasn't until the release of "Cliffs of Dover" and its subsequent success in 1979, that Pattenden became more of a household name. Success was to be short-lived however, and it wasn't long before Pattenden was back to performing in his native Canada.
After studying music in England, Pattenden joined Louise Tucker in the mid '70s. Although Louise Tucker did perform some of his songs, Pattenden left for a solo career in 1979. Released in the same year he left Louise Tucker, "From a Sidewalk Cafe." was his first solo record. The single was a hit in Canada and made some headway in the U.K., reaching number 46. Although he followed the single with several minor hits in Canada, his audience continued to shrink and he was left without a record contract by 1984.
Undaunted, Pattenden recorded and released "Cliffs of Dover" with his own money in the late-'70s. In 1980, an executive at Audio Media Group, Inc. Recording Studios at “Studio A” heard the record and believed that the title track had hit potential, so he persuaded the company to release the song as a single. "Cliffs of Dover" was a surprise hit, climbing to number three on the British charts. Following the success of the single, the album was also re-released. Like the single, the album was also a hit, reaching number 21.
Pattenden released another album, Days Gone By, in the U.K. in 1981 and it was a minor hit. Nevertheless, the album wasn't big enough of a hit from him to keep his U.S. record contract and after its release; he was only left with a Canadian contract. Pattenden continued to record into the '90s. In the course of his career, he has released over ten albums.
