Good question. If your a band that is well known and is already rich and famous, then its only a better way to promote your band. If your a starting out artist, this can help immensely because it can promote your band easily and efficiently.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Only if I like the terms.

I've been playing for about 3 years now.

Kirk Hammet and James Hetfield from Metallica, John Petrucci and the rest of Dream Theater, most older metal bands.
