Band History:
Biography
Nor Cal Acoustic!
The Pine Needles take the string band sound into a variety of traditional and modern acoustic directions. Currently performing on the west coast and making demos for their first full-length CD, the group explores original and classic jam improvs, acoustic rock & popular music, swing jazz, historic folk, and old time fiddle music. The Pine Needles formed out of a love for mountain style string band acoustic instruments and the wonderful musical textures they produce in an ecclectic jam & string band setting. Founder Josh Needleman first heard the American string band sound in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York at age 4. After performing and studying rock, jazz, latin, broadway, soul, world, and classical music for many years, Josh has settled nicely into eclectic string music. During those formative years, Josh was seen on stage or recorded with many top flight professionals including David Grisman, Joe Craven, Don Cherry, Matt Butler, Archie Williams, Collage of i, Lucas Arts, Scribe, Nina Gerber, Carl Locket, Kit Walker, & Symphony Parnasus. Add old time & jazz mandolin/fiddler man Morgan Meadow, (a second place winner at The Cloverdale Old Time Fiddle Contest and Skiffle Symphony jug & string band founder who produced 2 CDs with old time master mandolinist Kenny Hall) to the line up, and you have the basic ingredients for a rich tapestry of mandolin and guitar music. Here is a fine, fun, and evolving acoustic ensemble...Enjoy and be kind.
