Some Highlights From a Scene

I worked in New York's underground music and arts scene for 8 years, co-founded the New York Underground Music & Poetry festival which featured hundreds of poets & musicians and occured over 3 days (Nov 10-12, 2000) at over 13 clubs in NYC. It was a blast...

Last show I did in NYC was at Knitting Factory with David Amram and Steve Earle. Poetry and music heaven - Steve played acoustic, also read poetry. I just read some Kerouac with David Amram. Some good fun that was!

Best times playing live: Luna Lounge, Lakeside Lounge...Good memories of Dianne (owner of Luna) and Roscoe (owner of Lakeside). Dianne told me about how Elliott Smith used to sit in the back drinking and writing songs in his head, and putting them down in a notebook. What a genius he was, God rest his soul. Of course, if you're ever in NYC you gotta go to Lakeside, it has the best jukebox in the city not to mention the stupendous music.

Coolest NYC moment...After a Mike Watt show at Mercury Lounge on a cold winter night, Mike Watt was getting into his very special completely decked out road van. (Yeah - he drives his own van!!!) We talked poetry and music for a moment, and he thanked me and my friend Nora for coming out. Then he said "gotta go...it's cold up here, and ya know, I don't wear socks OR underwear!" He laughed and got in the van.

Phantom Moon has received good reviews from nearly all who hear it, with Phantom Moon the fav track. It seems to be selling in countries around the world from CD Baby. If you're a musician with indi music, you HAVE to sign up with CD Baby. They're the best.
