The core of The 1850 Project are Father and Son, Neil and Jonathan Davies. All the songs here were written and recorded by Jonathan and Neil.
Why this name?
The original genesis of the band came from a father's promise to play a gig on the son's 18th and the father's 50th birthdays (a day apart in 2009). Hence 1850 Project. There is more information in the Band History.
Do you play live?
In March 2009, The 1850 Project played a special birthday gig (to celebrate Jonathan's 18th and Neil's 50th birthdays) at St Andrew's Hall in West Kirby, Wirral, UK. Completing the line-up for the gig were bass player Tony Longworth (solo artist, film music composer, bass player with Flesh Resonance and Morbid Symphony) and drummer Chris Davies (multi-instrumentalist, ex-Foundry, cousin to Jonathan and nephew to Neil). All four performers have experience of playing live in bands (although in Neil's case it was over 30 years since he'd last done it!). You can see a video from the gig here on Soundclick and several more on youtube.
Band History:
The 1850 Project is still developing. It began life as a promise from an ageing musician to his son that on his 50th birthday and the son's 18th (a day apart in 2009) they would play a gig together (hence the 1850 in the band name). Now the gig has come and gone, the Father and Son duo have decided to continue recording.
