José Callejón gives internacional projection to the Dalías Christ of Light Celebrations

translated by Araceli Rizo

Do you play live?
Yes, although few times this year, maybe I´ve been a little bit lazzy. The last time I perfeormed on april, as a participant for the National Declamation Contest celebrated in Albox (Spain), and getting the third position.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Internet brought real advantages, because there are specialized portals for the independent artist autopromotions, that allow us to make our own Web site page, in there we can include our music and all kind of information, most of the times for free, alowing us to create links to another Web sites. Also it can be interesting to know about other digital artist at the musical discussion forum.
What can I say, It´s very cool, on how we can divulge our work by staying at home, without taking any planes or traveling long distance roads for the search of opportunities ...¡We can, and we should feel ourselves international for avoiding the airports...! just kidding, I am sure that what we do it can result very attractive to many people, it´s a fantastic option for people to hear the music before buying it, now days few people is willing to pay 15 or 20 dlls for a CD. in the other hand it´s more common for people, these days, to buy a song at the internet for 2 or 3 dlls, and get the chance to select, what they want to hear, and even more, all that money goes directly to the creators and owners of that music.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I thing that, due to the pirate phenomenon, the independent artist we are seen by the discographics as a little opportunity to obtain incomes, although, sincerely, if I speak for what it affect me, I am not concerned at all, because, I don´t ambition to work with them in any ways. I know a case where a band that was very illusioned, they gave everything to the discography people, but they barely support them, same happens with some football promises players that get into a bigger club, with the hope to be victorious, and end up dissapointed by staying the whole season at the footstool.
Although wasn´t like that, I love to decide till the last process detail of my production, I don´t feel myself very comfortable with other people telling me what to do,what to wear or just simply, what should I sing, etc... I am pleased and I love to be an independent artist, maybe I am not marketable guy for the discography people, but thanks to the internet, we are free to do our work the way we want to. In my case, I´m very happy for being a “Peregrino” on-line.
Band History:
My vocation for singing comes since I was a kid, although was on my adolescence when I felt the need to bring music to my couplets, or to arrange with the guitar.
I began by singing at the cultural acts of my institute also participated at competitions of singer autors and poetry contest. After finishing the university I concentrate first of all in Theatre, making performances and directing theatre clases for kids and adults. Meanwhile I started to take more seriously the recording of my first album called “Trampagos”, a cabaret musical that I will present at the 2008 carnaval in Soundclick.
After edition it , I was invited to write for a cultural magazine and make some colaborations as a radio announcer, for publicity spots.Until several years later, on 2005, I change my music registry, by taking the descission to produce a song called “Peregrino”, a intimate and spiritual theme, instead of a bitting and theatrical theme.
Later on, I´ve been studing on my own, about the mastering and just now I already have my own laboratory, “Puppet Elfins Studio Recording and Mastering”, which these days I`m making the last arrangements of other themes, that from now on, I will present as a novelty at soundclick.com/josecallejon.

Favorite spot?
Without a doubt, the Christ of Light celebrations at the end of the summer in Dalías (Spain) very hospitalary town where I come from, in those days, thousands of people pilgrimage from other villages, to fulfill their promises and to postrate before the Christ of Light image, venerated at the church along with spikenards and jazmine flowers that, melts with the fireworks aroma when, the night falls on the third september sunday, the devotees carry out on shoulders the image, for a procession under an inigualble spectacle of tributed sky rockets towards the Dalías dark ceiling while the devotees barefooted accompany with candles the Christ of Light image, till is returned back to the church filled with energy.
I will add, that many people from a different ideologies, believes, and religions, get excited without contain the tears, from the emotion when they postrate before the generous Christ of Light image, from who became devotees.
Equipment used:
What it refers to, the way I compose, I am acostumed to make it with a guitar, because it´s more easy to place at the back of my car than a piano, it´s easy for travel if I have to.
And the thing that I cannot miss at all, is my mobile phone, in case I have an idea and I want to record it. After at home, I make use of the piano to complete those ideas and make more arrangements.
Anything else...?
Give thanks to my wife, who has been my translator, interpret and my particular english proffesor during this interview. And for encourage and support me to see fulfill my recording and mastering dream.
