Charley Drumm is a solo, "specialist", playing a diverse repretoire, from BLUES to 50's and 60's rocknroll, to SOUL, old school R&B, POP, plus a few favorite new tunes. Considered a "musician's musician", Charley fills a stage with more than his physical size. A large, booming voice fills the room with his smooth tones and melodies, while his unique, "one man show" guitar style, flashes and whizzes guitar licks, creating sounds that make people listening to recordings, wonder if there aren't TWO people playing guitars!
Why this name?
CHARLEY DRUMM is my name. I have a nickname, CHARLEYROCKNROLL, I often use,as well.
Do you play live?
At the moment, I am based in Southwest Louisiana, where I was raised. I have some legal issues to finish up and then will be radiating in all directions from here, looking for gigs. Generally, you'll find me performing in restaurants, cafes, bars, coffeehouses, garage sales, private parties, backyard BBQ's and crawfish boils!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
No songwriter, artist likes his product stolen, as is the case with people pirating music and making copies of it. There ARE aspects of the internet and music, that behoove the "less than STAR status" individuals, such as myself. INTERNET RADIO STATIONS have been a giant boon, aiding not so well known artists to get heard by the masses, while they would still be outside a regular radio station, banging on the door, just to get in and BEG for airtime, usually a fruitless activity.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
The relationship with me and my wants and needs would have to be special. I love doing what I do. A record contract, or not having one, doesn't change the reason I do what I do.
Band History:
History, huh? Like name places I've played? GOOD LUCK..lol. In 1989, I was hired by a major plumbing supplier in Dallas(ELJER PLUMBING PRODUCTS), to play at a giant gala for one of their customers in HONGKONG. "Truly fantastic people" is the only way I can describe the people I met there. I was treated like I was ELVIS PRESLEY !! They LOVED me and I certainly fell in love with them.
Your influences?
Drugs, sex, and rocknroll?? hahaha, No, more like "BURL IVES meets ERIC CLAPTON, unplugged"!! Throw in some ol' rocknroll, SOUL, a truckdriving song, and a bunch of songs about living and loving, and getting along with each other.
Favorite spot?
I'm partial to standing on stage, in front of a mic. I don't care what city it's in..hahaha.
Equipment used:
GIBSON and TAKEMINE guitars, FENDER amps, MACKE PA head, JBL speakers, JOHN PEARSE guitar strings, DUNLOP picks, FINGER-EASE, KORG TUNER,a giant gig bag, heavy as HELL, loaded with stomp boxes, chords, batteries, anything I would need to do a gig, plus extras, in case something gets fried, or just quits. I hate being caught unprepared.
Anything else...?
I am in the process of kick starting a new life style. I hope to hit the ground running in the very near future, fully re equipped, after replacing all of my equipment I lost due to HURRICANE RITA and her storm surge, that completely wrecked my house and everything in it.
