Why this name?
MANASIA - spelled like "MAN" followed by "ASIA" but pronounced man-uh-SEE-uh. I've heard every possible mispronunciation over the course of my life and a few cute word plays like "Man, I see ya!" and "Chris, the man to see."
Do you play live?
M.A. Degree in Music Composition, B.S. Degree in Music and Electronic Technology. I have played live for years in various groups and situations, and still do as a solo act, however my studio recordings do not necessarily reflect any music that I perform live. I have performed original works live on piano and guitar (solo) and with all of my previous music groups (of varying genres), Sweet Leaf, Side Two, and Heavy Water, and also vocal music of the Renaissance with Peccata Mundi. My current solo performance repertoire consists of original pieces and cover songs for which I have recorded my own backing tracks to accompany my guitar and voice, but my main focus right now is composing and producing works in the recording studio, both of my own compositions, and pieces for other artists.
Band History:
Several CDs - Chris Manasia Productions 2010 Sampler (a new collection of recording studio works produced for other artists between 2006 and 2009), Night Music - 2007 (6 original pieces), Soundtracks Volume 1 - 1997 (instrumental electronic works in varying lengths intended for visual synchronization), Environmental Music - 1998 (approx. 60 minutes of electronically produced soundscapes and music). Works for solo piano and guitar, piano with various instruments, guitar with various instruments, Brass Quintet (1988), Sonata for Two Harpsichords (1991 - Meet the Composer) performed by Dr. Ronald Cross and Connie Prenner, string trio, numerous art songs including, Song Cycle on Ten Poems by e.e. cummings (1989 - Master's Thesis), instrumental and vocal pop/rock songs for all of my previous groups, numerous recording studio works and electronic music. NUMEROUS recording studio works produced for OTHER ARTISTS.
Your influences?
I am intrigued and inspired by the history of music in general, - the various movements that took place in different parts of the world over the past few centuries, encompassing all styles and the key musical figures who took part, up to and including all present day styles (and I do mean all styles....from Albinoni to Zappa!).
