Hi everyone, welcome to my music page. I am now retired from playing in bands live, and returning to work on my musical projects. I have written quite a few songs, and plan on getting more uploaded as soon as I can. I have been a singer all my life, and played keyboards since I was about 3 years old. My musical styles are influenced by many artists in many genres, from Swing, to Country, to Doo Wop music. Hope you enjoy some of my stuff, and let me know your comments if you would like to.
Why this name?
The Doo Wopper came from my love of the 50's era style of music. Having had other stage names, I decided after recently retiring after 30 years, to return to my Favorite "Nick"
Do you play live?
I have played live in bands for over 30 years, and just retired a few weeks ago. I have had many fond memories over the 30 years, but my favorite time of all was working in a band in Florida called "The Hometown Express". The drummer of the band used to play drums for Bill Haley & The Comets, and we did alot of the Oldies on any given night, as well as Country, Pop, & Classic Rock. I No longer play in clubs, but do from time to time sing Karaoke at local clubs in my area now, as well as using Paltalk if I want to stay at home and still sing.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I truly believe the internet is a double edged sword. On 1 hand the internet gives access to bands and solo artists material you most likely would have never even heard of, if not for the Web. On the other hand, having been a musician for almost all my entire life as an adult, I know that piracy hurt Artists & Songwriters, from getting royalties that might have meant the difference in paying a bill later after their career was over, that they should have recieved.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would!!! But the chances of being signed by a label are so small and remote, being realistic, you need money just to get signed, and I would rather be signed on the merits of my talent, versus how much money I invested. Besides the fact of Image being even more important than talent now, my marketability at my age is not what currently is being sought after.
Your influences?
singing influences: Ronnie Milsap, George Strait, Frank Sinatra, Kenny Rogers, Barry Manilow, The Platters....and many others. Playing influences: Floyd Cramer, Lenny Dee, Eddie Fisher, Burt Bacharach, Liberace, Hargus "Pig" Robbins....and many others also.
Favorite spot?
Houghton Lake Michigan....where I graduated and still visit from time to time, where I can get out of the fast paced life of the big city!
Equipment used:
Keyboards: Roland Fantom X6 with 3-SRX Expansion Cards, Roland JV-30, Peavey KB-300 Keyboard Monitor or my NEW Alesis Sumo 300 Keyboard Monitor, Shure SM58 Mic, Alesis 6 channel Mixer, Sony Sound Forge Software, and my PC
Anything else...?
A great song from the 70's was a song titled "I Believe In Music" where a line in the lyrics is "music is the universal language". This is such a true statement, but too often people are not constructive in opinions of material and they end up being Destructive in comments. I know everyone has their own personal tastes , and not everyone will like my styles I use, and for that reason it does not justify trashing me or my material just because it does not appeal to your tastes.
