DJ Haze (Paris - Cairo)
NEWS   I am currently signed with the French Indie label PopCorn Lab + I have a DJ residency at the Cairo Jazz Clubon Digital Friday nights.

I am also currently remixing vintage Egyptian folk songs from the 1920s, preparing for live shows in the EU and Egypt + considering other offers.

I also regularly give concerts in Cairo and Sinai.

The natural and hypnotic mix of electronica and egyptian roots - from deep downtempo to trashy tek.




I have two live formulae,

  • A dj set by myself, and

  • A set with live musicians on traditional egyptian instruments such as the pharaonic instrument the Rababa, the ancestor of the violin - a sort of desert violin; the tabla ; and vocalists.

    • Why this name?
    from the song 'Purple Haze' (Jimi Hendrix), and Cairo is such a hazy city...
    Band History:

    Beginnings


    I started as a percussionist/guitarist in african band then in funk/rock bands in Paris.Then I went into electronic music and djaying.
    Haze started in 1998 with DJ Fabre and myself.


    "Haze" was born from an improvisation with DJ Fabre and myself during the Salon International de la Musique Ù쳌Electronique "Mix Move" in 1998. Then we started to work on Paris, Morocco and Egypt.




    After that, I began to specialize and focus on the remixing of Egyptian music roots (traditional and more modern).



    Work Retrospective


    Here's a brief outline of DJ Haze's work history (a full CV is coming soon):

  • Schola Canturum

  • Early 1990s: two years with top Zaire band in Paris , Matululu.

  • 1998: Salon International de la Musique Ù쳌Electronique "Mix Move"

  • Gave a free workshop on electronic music production at Studio Emaddedine, Cairo, attendants of the workshop released several electronic music albums that are currently selling in Egypt, the EU and Australia.
