What do Stanley Clarke, Sarah Vaughn, Clark Terry, Les Paul, Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puentes, Jerry Garcia, Mick Jagger, Madonna, Jeff Beck, Stevie Wonder, Julian Lennon, and Paul Simon all have in common? 3X National Endowment for the Arts grantee, and Rico Reeds Saxophone Artist, JIMMY HALPERIN!

Why this name?
THE BRAINCHILD OF JIMI HALPERIN AND LARRY MEYER. BOTH HAVE STUDIED WITH LENNIE TRISTANO WHERE THEY LEARNED OF STRETCHING OUT IN THE FORMS...TRISTANO HAD MASTERED THIS MUSICAL FREEDOM IN HIS SOLO PIANO STYLE AND LIQUID JAZZ TAKES THIS CONCEPT AND REALIZES IT IN THE CONTEXT OF AN ENTIRE GROUP,... NAMELY THE QUARTET.

DOVETAILING THEIR ORIGINAL LINES AND HARMONIES IN SERVICE OF THE SWING,THE QUARTET DELVES DEEPLY INTO THE FOURTH DIMENSION WHICH IS TIME...SO IN SERVICE OF THE INTENSITY THE TIME IS STRETCHED
OVER ABOVE AROUND AND BEYOND THE BAR WHILE ABSOLUTELY MAINTAINING THE REAL TIME CONTINUITY OF THE UNDERLYING MELODIC, HARMONIC, AND RYTHMIC STRUCTURE... THE RESULT IS A NEW DEEPER FEEL TO THE MUSIC
WITH NEW COLORS AND TENSIONS...THE STRETCH CAN GO AS FAR AS MELTING
DOWN... HENCEFORTH LIQUID JAZZ...
Do you play live?
Yes, as a matter of fact we will be playing a lot in the near future in support of the new, Liquescence/Liquidity (double CD set), release. Contact Rick at 970-216-4168
Anything else...?
Next time someone repeats the canard about the "Cool School’s" emotionlessness and undemonstrativeness, play them Jimmy's arrangement of Sweet Georgia Brown and see if they’re not on their seat’s edge by the end of a Halperin solo.

Jimmy has consulted with world class violinist, Ruggiero Ricci to arrange all 24 of Paganini's Caprices for solo soprano sax. He has since committed those 24 Caprices to memory and can play them through in 70min.

A head full of music.
Hands full of music.
A heart full of music.
