Band? No. A bassist of long duration, older now. Looking for something at an Austin City Limits level with the goal of actually performing with someone on the show in a working, viable act, richly rewarding artistically, deeply rooted in American musical traditions from Louis Armstrong up to Ry Cooder, Prof. Longhair into modern Blues, jazz influences from Weather Report to Joan Armatrading to Donna the Buffalo. My homemade tracks pretty much state what I am all about, where I come from.
Why this name?
It's my name....
Do you play live?
Yes, I play live. Anywhere I can. I really like it. My most special moments are when I get paid. And properly.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It changed the music industry by making too many artists think giving away their art for free benefits them somehow.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Is the Pope catholic?
Band History:
Played in high school soul bands. Was protegé of former Buddy Rich members Ken Faulk, Pete Graves and arranger Larry Warrilow in early 70's. Studied under Prof. Stan Samole at University of Miami briefly, and with then students Bruce Hornsby, Hiram Bullock, Pat Metheny, Steve Morse, Ross Trout, Jaco Pastorius, Randall Dollohan, Mark Egan, Jerry Coker, Jerry Green and others to include Prof. Jack Pezanelli of Berklee Sch. of Music.
Your influences?
James Jamerson, Jim Fielder, Max Bennett, Jerold Jemmott, Chuck Rainey. Music of Ry Cooder, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Eddie Cochran, Wayne Cochran, Temptations, Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Frank Zappa, Capt. Beefheart, etc., etc., etc.
Favorite spot?
Not anymore. Willing to re-locate ASAP to anywhere I can actually work and make a living playing music. Beats being homeless....
Equipment used:
Bottom end Gibson Tobias 5-string electric bass; archiac beyond belief Unicord single 15" speaker 90 watt combo amp. And some crappy acoustic bass guitar. An Ibanez I bought offa E-Bay.
Anything else...?
Well, I ain't much to look at at 60 years old. I prefer to be heard, and not seen. And heard I am, all within the precise context of the music at hand, at the most high end professional level I can possible dish out.
