Nephthys is an entity formed by Gabriel and SpYke in late January 2006. Nephthys is Winnipeg's last remaining hope for a revival Gothic scene, and are currently putting together their first live set.
Why this name?
"Nephthys" in egyptian myth, was one of the sister's of Isis. Her role as a goddess was to commandeer the boat that would come to pick up your soul and bring it down the Nile (The source and flow of life in egyptian myth). Effectively, she was the egyptian goddess of the dead - something of a Grim Reaper.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It certainly allows for very easy publicity, providing you have the equipment to record music. Unfortunately, the mp3 has also allowed people to cut into starting bands profits (through pirating), making it extremely difficult to even make enough money to keep producing music, let alone live off of it.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Absolutely. Our genre has remained in the indie and subculture labels since it began in the early 80's. If we were offered to sign on with a major record label, that would take our genre to a new level. It would be a benchmark for gothic culture.
Your influences?
The Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, The Rosetta Stone, The Wake, The Mission UK
Favorite spot?
Die Maschine, Winnipeg.
Equipment used:
Electronic drum machines, Electric guitar, bass, 12 string acoustic guitar, Roland Juno-G sampling synthesizer.
Anything else...?
Nephthys is the only remaining gothic revival band in Winnipeg. We can be seen almost every Saturday at the Die Maschine, Winnipeg.
