SHOL’NUFF

The group Shol’Nuff consists of a trio of Savannah, GA natives, PigPen (Rap Artist), Skeet Mitchell (R&B Artist) & Tony Mitchell (Jazz Artist). Their brand of music is a blend of all of their musical specialties. “ We can’t categorize it ourselves, we call it “Street Jazz”, “Ridah Muzik”, all kinds of stuff, but its kind of hard to put it under one umbrella so far as a particular genre. I guess an adequate way to describe it is ‘alternative urban music’.” Their musical influences are just as diverse as the style of music they write, arrange and produce. All three members are also producers in addition to their individual vocal/instrumental skill. “ You name it, Marvin, Mayfield, Prince, NWA, ‘Pac, Grover, ‘80’s pop… everything. When you limit what you listen to, you limit what you create. So we don’t try to sound like or be like anybody. We just do what we do, give it to the world and let them decide if they accept it or reject it.”
Why this name?
We have a mix of jazz, R&B and rap in our music, as well as a bit of Old School, and "Shonuff" is an Old School term, so to be different we threw an 'L' in it, but our name is a representation of all those things (jazz, R&B, rap, & old school) we encompass.
Do you play live?
We've played live for over 5 years, from of course Savannah,GA to Atlanta, to S.C. We love performing more than studio actually, there's nothing like crowd/fan interaction. Its a vibe you cant replace, so all of our moments on stage are special.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Its the best thing thats happened to the music industry from the standpoint of an independent artist. We've been doing music for 10 years, so we started from cassettes and flyers to push ourselves locally. MP3s and the internet allow you to be worldwide, 24/7, and honestly we have a much bigger and better response from people in other countries than we do in our own city,so its gratifying to know that on a worldwide basis your music is accepted, even if you havent become the 'talk'of your home city.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the details of the deal is right,of course. But as earlier stated, we've been doing this for a while so we've learned a lot, more so from how this business works and whats important on the business end. Music is our passion, but it doesnt blind us to business because we all have bills and responsibilities so we approach it like any other job interview or whatever, if the offer isnt right for what my skill/experience offers your company, we either negotiate or just see what happens.
Anything else...?
WE LOVE EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTS US AND OUR MUSIC!!!!! We also have a special appreciation for our international fans, its a great feeling to know our music can touch people who live in other countries and even speak different languages. Its a testament to how important and valuable music is, and how it knows no barriers.
