Why this name?
The streets gave me my name the older cats just said that I always kept it TRU to the Game and it just stuck I actually was goin by somethin' else and they was like naw you gone be TRU-G yeah thats you. The rest is History!
Do you play live?
Yes. Anywhere that will allow me too. I love to see my fans singing my songs word for word.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It changes the industry in a big way because you are able to reach a fanbase that you would otherwise have no axcess to. But it does hurt record sales but when you are independant its no big deal.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Hell yeah if the money was right!
Band History:
Phenomenon is the proper description of a mastermind and TRU-G is better known as the Southern Phenomenon. This mastermind is a ripe 23 years young with a musical journey in sight that promises thriving significant words delivered with a whirlwind of block beatin' self-produced tracks, and he'd like to take you on his journey.
TRU-G's "ruff and rugged" vocal cords are coupled with an unashamedly Louisiana accent. He's been tagged as the new Mystikal. Consequently, TRU-G wrote a song about the unfortunate tag titled, "I'm Sick of this Sh*t". TRU-G has established himself as an exceedingly popular performer throughout the southern region of the states and is progressively taking the necessary steps forward to take the nation swiftly.
His album, "And Then There Was One" was scheduled for release January 2006. The title of the album derived from his situation of him being in two groups of almost 10 members total at one time. Whatever the circumstances, they were unable to stay together as a group. TRU-G says that after all the years of back-biting, back-stabbing, people burning him and holding him down he felt the title of his album was appropriate; "And Then There Was One"!
Born as Tierriri J. Franklin, II in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; TRU-G was destined to make his mark in the music industry. The handsome young 6ft gent began producing tracks at the age of 13, not only for himself but for other artists in his area. In 2001, TRU-G and his mother formed a production company called T.A.L.I. Entertainment. T.A.L.I. stands for "Thuggin' and Lovin' It".
TRU-G has opened shows for: Master P, The Big Tymers, Lil Wayne, T-Bo, Krazy, Juvenile, B.G., Soulja Slim, C-Loc, Mystikal and many more... When asked what are his most favorable characteristics he emphatically states, "My one of a kind personality, you gotta love some TRU-G". While he's not in the studio laying down his tracks, TRU-G enjoys, designing clothes and watching a good game of football.
TRU-G surveys that some of today's music listeners are looking for situations in the artists life; placed over a hot track which allows the listeners to identify with and possibly bring them closer to the artist, whether it's a storyline song or a track that goes hard in club. He has the ingredients to do just that. It's good gumbo!
In the later parts of the summer of 2004, TRU-G signed with an independent label; located in Houston, Texas which will remain nameless but if you have been following his career then its no secret . TRU-G's talent, business oriented mind, creativity among other things, placed him as the labels marquee artist. Soon the relationship went sour due to comfortabilty, unreleased albums, lack of pay, and underhanded deals.
Soon after that TRU-G realized he had it right the first stick with the home team. He never left left T.A.L.I. Entertainment and its a good thing. After sitting the sidelines for a minute TRU-G recorded his highly talked about mixtape f*** U PAY ME! And it was like he never missed a beat. The album went on to air out his situations with his former label and labelmates. Once a few of the songs were leaked to the internet the labels started calling.
Songs from the album that are getting spins and recognition from the album are: "I Need A Throw Back", In the month of Fall, 2005 he charted #1 out of 358,828 songs currently listed in the Hip-Hop category at www.soundclick.com, and "U Got Me Messed Up! " charted #1 out of 80,241 songs listed in the Hardcore Hip-Hop category at the same site. The entire album was produced, performed, recorded, and mixed by TRU-G. No features necessary. And Then There Was One!
Nothing is in concrete yet but the future holds something big for TRU-G and T.A.L.I. Entertainment. I guess you have to stay tuned to find out what!
