The Astronaut King is an experimental project started in 2007 which is currently describable as Psychedelic Space Ambient.
Why this name?
It was late, I liked the way it sounded, and I was running out of options. Pretty much anything that pertains to space ends up sounding good, so I figured "why not?" and stuck with it.
Do you play live?
Sure I play live, as of the summer of 2008.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
You wouldn't be reading this if it wasn't for internet music sites, and I think it's had a very positive impact. I'd love to hear some of my stuff on vinyl though.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It really depends, if I can't keep full control of my music in any way, it isn't worth it. I make music to express myself, not to make money.
Your influences?
There's a lot of diverse influences to my music, and over the years I've just added more and more to them.

Some of my early influences were musicians like Neil Young, Deep Purple, and all types of 60's and 70's psychedelic and hard rock.

These days I listen to a lot of genres of metal and I'm always interested by the experimental or avant-garde, but I'll admit I'm pretty picky about what I listen to and I'll never say "I listen to everything." I don't.

Some of my favorite bands are Bolt Thrower, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Bathory, His Hero is Gone, Cavity, and Noothgrush, if that gives you an idea of what I like.

If you just want a straight list of what influences the sound of this project then:
Earth, Sunn O))), Boris, 5ive?s Continuum Research Project, Godflesh, Pharaoh Overlord, Lento, Warhorse, Dick Dale, link Wray, Cianide, Coffins, Kyuss, Bolt Thrower, Floor, Lustmord, Bongripper, Final, Brant Bjork, Neil Young, Acid Bath, EyeHateGod, Nihilist, diSEMBOWELMENT, Phantomsmasher, Esoteric, Yawning Man, Bathory, Deep Purple, Noothgrush, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, His Hero Is Gone, Autopsy, Blind Idiot God, Neurosis, Pelican, Ufomammut, and a lot of other things. All sorts of doom, sludge, death, thrash, black, drone, (etc.) metal, hardcore and crust punk, whatever type of electronica is appealing to me, I could go on for hours but I'll stop here.
Equipment used:
Most of the songs recorded between November of 2007 and February of 2008 I used a program called Creox for realtime effects, but now I own the pedals I need to make most of the sounds I want. The guitar used in those recordings is a Danelectro Innuendo. Most commonly I use a Boss Phase Shifter, Behringer Digital Delay, and my Digitech Metal Master pedal.

As of June 2008 I have a Schecter C-1 Hellraiser guitar and B-52 LS100 and LS412A half stack.
Anything else...?
Check here and MySpace regularly for updates! I have CDs for sale, contact me if you're interested.
