Dionisia play a mix of italian rap, funky/fusion and turntables. Groovy is just what they want to sound like!
Why this name?
"Dionisie" (Dionysia in English... that was easy) were orgiastic seasonal festivals held in ancient Greece to honor the god Dionysus (corresponds to Bacchanalia in ancient Rome). It was somewhat like a carnival, rules were overthrown, everybody was drunk, made sex, had fun and mocked politicians. That's what we like to do as well, but we also refer to Nietzsche's concept of Dionysiac, as an instinctive approach to art. It just means having fun... :)
Do you play live?
Our music expresses at its best only live, so concerts are essential for us!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Mp3s are just a step before buying an album every time the quality of the album deserves buying! Labels are destined to become useless as producers and distributors of musical products, as soon as everyone will be able to sell his music online all over the world, using cd print-on-demand services. They will base their hegemony almost only on promotion power. Our song "Musica pirata" (= pirate music as expectable) is a hymn to downloading! :)
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Being a musician in Rome is quite difficult nowadays if you don't want to play covers of be a session man. Without a label contract, you can't get sustenance only from your music, you just ought to have a "real" job... :) This means you can think of your music only as a hobby, time killing instead of working. A record contract is the only way to spread your music if you can't with your own forces.
Band History:
Dionisia form in december 2005, but the idea has been conceived long before. In 2002 Marco Vallini thought to set up a "particular" rap band, but the idea hasn't been developed further. In july 2004 Marco meet drummer Daniele D'Archivio, and they spend the next year looking for a bass player. Then they put off the idea of making a voice, drum and bass only fusion band and call a guitarist. Dionisia was then born at the end of 2005. In april 2006 they record the demo "Musica per riti orgiastici", and in june they have a mini-debut on stage. In october bass player Luca De Lorenzo joins Dionisia. After playing with them in two concerts, Michele Marsella becomes Dionisia's guitarist. In february 2007 they get the fifth member: Salvatore Costa!
