I'm a BMI singer/songwriter who normally writes contemporary christian worship music. Over the years I have written a bunch of non religious or semi religious music and this is what I am presenting under the Muse Yak name. I hope you enjoy the tunes !!!
Why this name?
I thought Muse Yak was a clever play on the word "Music."
Do you play live?
I do play live but mostly in church or at Christian conferences. The Muse Yak stuff is reserved mostly for coffee houses and open mike nights at clubs.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It certainly opens the door for a lot of musical expression. The problem is that it also clouds the musical scene with a lot of "home demo" quality music. So, if you are looking for an outlet for your personal art then it's great but if you are an aspiring professional it can be discouraging to get lost in the massive mix.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I'm more into single song contract type stuff with music publishers but if a record company wanted to make it worth my while to record an entire project with my own voice I wouldn't get angry and throw them out of the office !! LOL
Band History:
I've been playing music in various forms for most of my life. I've written over a 100 songs and love to collaborate with other musicians/singers/songwriters. Connecting through music is one of the greatest thrills a human can experience, in my opinion.
Your influences?
I'm a huge King's X fan though I grew up on bands like Rush and Triumph. My singing was most influenced by Jan Groth and Doug Pinnick.
Favorite spot?
I love the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts.
Equipment used:
I play several acoustics; an Ovation, a Takamine and a super inspirational Art & Luthier made by the wonderful foks at Godin. I play an electric Ovation (yes, a real electric by Ovation) through a Vox Tonelab SE.
