Ebon, spawned in August of 2002, is a fusion of the talents of Justin Lake Whedon and his wife Melinda Anne Whedon. Their vibrant, dark mixes gestate and are birthed in and around the Kansas City area.
In 1989 Justin stumbled onto electronic music by random chance. Living in a city that was barren of his new interest, a great deal of his youth was spent in transit between parties in the St. Louis and Chicago-land areas to fill the need this music had generated. Around this time Justin began his first DJ and production endeavors. In 1995 after years on the St. Loius and Chicago electronic promotion circuits, Justin founded Phuture, Inc. and began promoting parties in the Kansas City area. The Phuture, Inc. parties were some of the first raves that the city had ever seen and interest grew exponentially from 200 people at the first event “Feel” to a staggering 1800 at Phuture, Inc.’s pinnacle event “Pulse”. In 1999, Justin teamed up with local hero DJ Roland to open the short but fantastically lauded after-hours club “Space”, which hosted both National and International talent such as Timo Maas, Leon Alexander, Chris Fortier, Pete “Shaker” Bones, ESP Woody McBride, Astroglyde, amongst a slew of others. Before being closed illegally by the city, “Space” became a limited legend and is now the club that all the old schoolers tell the newbies they shouldn’t have missed. After “Space”, Justin, now together with wife Melinda, changed Phuture, Inc. to Pod Productions and continued to promote after hours events bringing Kansas City the talents of such DJs as John Creamer, Monk from Rabbit in the Moon, Slacker, Max Graham, Lucien Foort and many more.
In August 2002, Justin and Melinda shifted their interests from promotions to the production of dark tribal house. The duo Ebon swiftly caught the eye of the House community and not long after release of their promo single “Sleepless2”, they were receiving requests for their original productions and remixes from big name DJs and up-and-comers alike. The track was charted in the March 2003 issue of MUZIK magazine by James Zabiela, and shortly thereafter licensed by Hooj Choons for Zabiela’s upcoming mix CD “Sound in Motion” and the triple (unmixed) vinyl of the same name.
Justin, performing out Live quite a few times in Kansas City over the past 6 months has created a rather nice local buzz with the unique, flawlessly mixed, dark, tribal, LIVE sets he creates. With several new tracks, a white label scheduled for release with the NYC duo Astroglyde, and the prospects of many remix assignments in the future, Ebon is quickly becoming the barometer by which others gauge themselves.

Why this name?
The music we produce tends to be on the dark side of house/tribal so when thinking of names we came up with Ebon, which means dark or darkness.
Do you play live?
Yes. We are getting many requests from far away places, and have hopes of reaching many of them in the near future. As of now we've performed out LIVE in many KC/Regional clubs and parties.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it's great. A wonderful way to get exposure.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It would depend on how much freedom we were given by the contract.
