description
Welcome to the music of Carlo D'Anna's Ridiculous Dream music. Also known as "Dream Warrior" in some circles. Influences and music styles ranging from basic to progressive rock, with definite Retro seventies sound. If you enjoy the sound of Moody Blues, George Harrison, Genesis, Dead Can Dance, and others of the same style, more or less, you will probably like this music. I use quite a bit of Mellotron and acoustic fingerstyle guitar as well.
Why this name?
.
My Soundclick angle "Ridiculous Dream"?
Isn't life one?
Do you play live?
I have played mainly as a street musician and in Folk life fairs in the town of Santa Cruz, Calif. and in a few gigs with others. I have formed a small group of like-minded fools to play in my area as well.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It opens up a whole pandemonium of sounds which is neither negative, nor positive. It just lays it straight on the table, like a combo pizza!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure, for a six figures deal! Why the hell not?
Or even two figures...
...or even ten cents?
...spare change?
Your influences?
I listen to alot of 70's Prog-Rock and obscure European RIO (Rock in Opposition), and World.
My Favs are early Genesis, Danny Kirwan of early Fleetwood Mac, Anthony Phillips, Robert Wyatt, Steve Hackett, King Crimson, Leo Kotke, John Fahey, Spirit, and Quicksilver Messenger Service. Michael Hedges, some jazz and classical. And let us not forget the great Ren and Stimpy. My own interest is Fingerstyle Guitar and Rhythm Guitar.
Favorite spot?
Big Sur, Santa Cruz, Monterey and Carmel California. Olympic Rain Forest.
Equipment used:
Six string Ovation Guitar, 12 string acoustic/electric Takamine dread. Gibson electric semi-hollow body guitar, Martin Dreadnaught 6 string guitar, Asian Bamboo flute, tabla and tamborine. I also now use M-tron, Sampletron, IK Multimedia Fender.
I record using Protools 8.01. Xpand, BFD Drums
Anything else...?

Nice intro and the acoustic *glistens* very well. This gives me some hints of Jethro Tull's inspiration from the woods and the mix is great as is the sustaining electric sounds! 5 Stars for this one!

Such an authentic and natural sound here. An old sound as well, although you are using a mellotron.

It really feels like going for a long walk in the forests, enjoying all life you are meeting there.

I want to mention as well that in the first minute, it really feels like being in between flies. Think it's the "abrupt" timing in that part that appeals to the movements of the flies, or insects in general.

This is really top again, Carlo. Think it's one of your best. Enjoyed it very much. Pure magic indeed.

A few Eastern influences here Carlo, thoughtful spacing to create the best effect of the instruments, you are so creative amigo

Fantastic, fantastical music Carlo. The mood, the little pauses, the interplay between the guitars, everything works together here to make a little magic.

Cool Carlo - excellent dynamics on the guitar gives the song it's flare, and the Mellotron enhances the background - well done!

It's great when a cover brings something new to the table. The mello0troon plus Kath = one heck of a combo!

Quite the delight, I'm glad it resurfaced from under the newer tunes. Groovy and fun, love that percussion.

Very good visuals go with the dancing meter and flow of the music that befit the Mayfly's dance, nice one Carlo smile :)

Yes, Rodz has used the term "trippy", which this qualifies for (as it does for a lot of your work) I liked the "old world" vibe done with a potpourri of instrumentation. Also enjoyed all the factoids about the Mayfly. Quite the cool sonic journey for an old goat roper...

Great melody, it has a kind of mystical quality about it. I imagine a dance similar to something Middle Eastern or Asian, yet floating in the air like the mayfly. An almost trippy kind of groove which definitely appeals to the senses.

I have watched "Blackfish"; I highly recommend others see it. On demand it, borrow it from the local library, or whatever. It's sad but worthwhile- almost dutiful as a citizen of the world. Great song subject matter, Carlo, and cool song too! Thanks for producing it!

This takes me back to the 70s. Specifically, the 1470s. wink ;) Great progressive music, inventive and adventurous, full of imagination.
