description
Welcome to the music of Carlo D'Anna's Ridiculous Dream music. Also known as "Dream Warrior" in some circles. Influences and music styles ranging from basic to progressive rock, with definite Retro seventies sound. If you enjoy the sound of Moody Blues, George Harrison, Genesis, Dead Can Dance, and others of the same style, more or less, you will probably like this music. I use quite a bit of Mellotron and acoustic fingerstyle guitar as well.
Why this name?
.
My Soundclick angle "Ridiculous Dream"?
Isn't life one?
Do you play live?
I have played mainly as a street musician and in Folk life fairs in the town of Santa Cruz, Calif. and in a few gigs with others. I have formed a small group of like-minded fools to play in my area as well.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It opens up a whole pandemonium of sounds which is neither negative, nor positive. It just lays it straight on the table, like a combo pizza!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure, for a six figures deal! Why the hell not?
Or even two figures...
...or even ten cents?
...spare change?
Your influences?
I listen to alot of 70's Prog-Rock and obscure European RIO (Rock in Opposition), and World.
My Favs are early Genesis, Danny Kirwan of early Fleetwood Mac, Anthony Phillips, Robert Wyatt, Steve Hackett, King Crimson, Leo Kotke, John Fahey, Spirit, and Quicksilver Messenger Service. Michael Hedges, some jazz and classical. And let us not forget the great Ren and Stimpy. My own interest is Fingerstyle Guitar and Rhythm Guitar.
Favorite spot?
Big Sur, Santa Cruz, Monterey and Carmel California. Olympic Rain Forest.
Equipment used:
Six string Ovation Guitar, 12 string acoustic/electric Takamine dread. Gibson electric semi-hollow body guitar, Martin Dreadnaught 6 string guitar, Asian Bamboo flute, tabla and tamborine. I also now use M-tron, Sampletron, IK Multimedia Fender.
I record using Protools 8.01. Xpand, BFD Drums
Anything else...?

Elegant arrangement from the intro into the main part, a clever transition using then the 3/4 tempo for a romantic (kinda sad) waltz song, great instrumentation, loved this production Carlo, also the insert of the theremin was a clever choice in this one, well done!! smile :)

Wow...there's something very, very trippy going on here! smile :) I love the vibe...something to chill out to, just what I need! I could listen to this for hours. Don't know how you do it, but you manage to harness a sense of calm and escapism. Excellent stuff.

Lovely melody, captivating atmosphere and superb arrangement. You always achieve such a great vibe in your songs. The song illustrates a sense of beauty and wonder - your daughter will be very proud of this one.

Laid-back psychedelic-ish vibe in a waltz form that is most intriguing. An Optigan? I had to look that one up. Wonderful instrumentation. Enjoyed

Top notch production and quite a diverse piece to be in 3/4 time as well. I do hear some shades of Beatles. Very melodic and I enjoyed the listen. Nice work!

Cool Optigan intro. Dig the backward effect and cool Carlo signature Eastern influenced melodic elements. I think this is very creative Carlo - bravo!

This has such a spacy feel to it, a bit psychedelic, a bit retro modern, and classic mind & ear candy for a trip through the outer limits of ultra-consciousness.

Ancient psychedelic? I've noticed the signature sound you seem to be carving out has really been coming together lately. An alien walks home from the pub just before dawn and this is what happens.

When I first saw the title, I thought a parody of the Beatle's song "She's Leaving Home" but you tricked us with a very cool totally different piece of great music. Awesome!

I recognize your characteristic sound immediately and still wonder how you make that.

Melancholy, drama and such an ancient feeling (Middle Ages). Organs.

At 0:25 the waltz rhythm is coming in (or becoming clear). Are you using an accordion as well?

A slow waltz, turning around. I like the way it stops and then continues and get the feeling this could last forever.

And the use of the theremin in between the other instruments is great too, making the mood stronger.

Very nice one!

Great acoustic sounds. Very nice soft and gentle music. A Hawaiian vibe is sure present, but also a touch of jazzy sounds. All together it is a very realxing to listen to. Thanks for that, Carlo!
