Band History:
- I was born at the 8th of May 1981 in Bochum, Germany
- 1987 I enrolled to the Steiner-School in Essen.
- With eight years I started to play the Cello while playing an instrument was part of the school program.
- In class eight I started to teach myself guitar, inspired by a teacher.
- One year later in class 9 I started to teach myself electric bass and joined a punk band.
- 1999 I played the main part in a class play and was responsible for the music of the production. In this context I started to teach myself Piano and had my first experiences in free improvisation on the Cello, the Piano and the Guitar.
- In 2000 I made my first experiences with professional gardening and farming in an organic context in a Camphill in England (Oaklands Park).
- In the 2002 I started an apprenticeship as a gardener in an organic garden in the south of Germany near the Lake Constance
- Half a year later I bought myself a Computer and started to produce my own music. In the same year I started to take classical Cello lessons again.
- 2003-2005 I have been member of the band Makama were I played Cello. We have been gigging around the Lake Constance as well as performing street music in cities like Überlingen.
- 2004 we recorded our first album.
- In 2005 I finished the apprenticeship at "Dorfgemeinschaft Lehenhof" and moved from the south of Germany back to Essen and did different jobs, mainly for saving money for the study at LIPA. My part in Makama was taken by a double bass player.
- At the end of 2006 I moved to Liverpool and started to study “Popular Music and Sound Technology” at LIPA (Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts).
- I finished the Diploma in the beginning of June 2007.
- In September last year I started the BA (Hons) Music Course at LIPA.
Your influences?
I have quite big range of influences: From Bach, Mozart and Beethoven to Jazz and Blues like Muddy Waters, Wes Montgomery, Jaco Pastorius to acts like NWA and Eminem. From a production point of view I might find myself listening to Pop such as Madonna, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera as well as Drum and Bass such as Rony Size and London Electricity or GOA (Psychedelic Trance) and Breakbeat. Fields I’m really interested in are also dance-, theatre-, and film-music as well from a production as from a live performance point of view.
Generally sat, I like music and if I think it is good music I enjoy listening to it or use it as references for my own productions...! (Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Luis Armstrong, Ray Charles, Led Zeppelin, James Brown, Björk, Seeed - and the list goes on…)
Equipment used:
I use an old PC with Cubase SX and a couple of VSTs or Rewire applications like Reason which sometimes enforces me to produce in 2 or 3 projects because of CPU overload. For recordings in my home studio I use WaveLab, where I can easily cut everything destructive and then stick it into the Sequencer.
If I work in the LIPA Studios I'm either Recording with ProTools on a Mac System or with a hard disk recorder (Radar). For coursework I also used Logic Pro. During the last year I used to record and cut whole sample banks of instruments such as Guitar, Bass, Piano, Cello, Drums and Percussions. - (if you are interested you find detailed blogs with pictures on my member profile).
