I've been sometimes walking, sometimes running, sometimes crawling, and sometime NOT going down this road ever since I figured out how to make stringed instruments work in a melodious fashion. The type of sounds coming from my strings don't really matter because they are always true, regardless how terrible or wonderful they are. The sounds coming from my vocal chords leave something to be desired but are just as true as my strings.
What you see is what you get. I am a slave to no image. I don't tell people to reject MTV and then dress myself up like every bozo on that poor excuse for musical television. I say reject it all. Go naked if you have to. But stop trying to live up to an image. Why do rock stars always have to look like rock stars? Why can't one of them dress like a baseball player for once? If I were a rock star, I would wear my favorite jeans and a comfy t-shirt. Just like I'm wearing right now.

Why this name?
You may or may not be wondering, why do I call myself Painfully Honest when this is just a solo project? There are many reasons for that, but I'll start from the beginning.
When I was still in high school, I was in a band (not called Painfully Honest). I can't remember the details now, but there were a lot of philosophical differences between the band members. After much thought, I decided to leave the band. It wasn't something I was terribly thrilled about because all three guys were close friends of mine. During this time of self-imposed exile, I came up with the idea of "Painfully Honest" and decided that any future band I was in would bear that name and that philosophy.
Some time later, I was back with two of the three aforementioned friends and we had a renewed focus and a new name: Painfully Honest. That didn't last long, as is the case with most high school bands, but those few months were some of the best of my life. After we went our separate ways, I took the name with me. I was still saving it with the hopes of starting another band some day, but the perfect situation always eluded me. There were other bands, but none were worthy of being Painfully Honest.
So, while I have given up my dream of making my living in a band, I've never given up my name and the significance that goes along with it. Whatever happens, my music will always be honest...as painfully so as it needs to be. If it's dumb to be a solo artist calling myself Painfully Honest, so be it. But that's what I am.

Do you play live?
I'd love to start playing live again, but until I get myself a band, I'll continue recording.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's great to be able to get music out to the public so easily and at such little cost. I hope to see the trend move more and more away from labels and towards a more intimate form of distribution.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I'm too old and not pretty enough.
Your influences?
I'm influenced by everything I hear. However, I usually end up going with the lowest common denominator in my music. That's not necessarily what I want to do, but that's what has happened and as a result, my songs tend to be fairly straight-foward and simple. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'm still trying to grow.
Equipment used:
