This is no pleasure cruise ... this is Atlanta's own ... GALLEON!
Why this name?
In addition to it being the name of one of our finest story-songs, we call ourselves GALLEON because we play music that sails above and beyond all the rest. We rock the boat but we don't drag the river!
Do you play live?
We have appeared regularly at Atlanta-area nightclubs and concert events, and now we hope to "make like a tree and branch out," seeking to play throughout the Southeastern United States in the coming months.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Let's put it this way ... the more websites on which we can have pages (as long as we don't have to pay for them), the more exposure our music will garner, hopefully leading to more lucrative bookings.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, if we are afforded the right opportunity.
Band History:
Galleon is an Atlanta-based musical group which believes rock & roll still matters. Comprised of Elliott Michaels, William Easterling, and June Meltzer, this electric outfit plays tasteful, well-crafted original rock songs highlighted by strong melodies, intelligent lyrics and powerful emotional content, and performed with professionalism and style. Thus, the band makes music that sails above all the rest!

Galleon's music is a fusion of the best elements of jazz, country, blues, gospel, folk, and African and Latin musical styles - the very same elements which were fused together to forge rock music in the first place. So it's still rock & roll to Galleon!

Galleon founder and skipper ELLIOTT MICHAELS (electric/acoustic guitar, lead vocals, keyboards, songwriting) is a seasoned veteran of the music scenes in New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. He first formed Galleon in 1994 and has been busily improving it ever since. Michaels' impeccable vocal styling and right-on-the-mark songwriting are the foundation on which was built the Galleon!

Galleon now also features WILLIAM EASTERLING (polyphonic synthesizer, organ, electric piano, harmony vocals), a classically-trained musician with an eclectic pop sensibility; and JUNE MELTZER (weapons of hand percussion, background vocals, lyrics, administative support), a long-time new music devotee with lots of get-up-and-go. The spirit, enthusiasm, and professionalism of these musicians helps ensure smooth sailing for Galleon!

The chemistry and camaraderie among musical partners Meltzer, Easterling, and Michaels is most evident in Galleon's cohesive and assertive sound, imposing stage presence, and commanding performance. The group appears often at Atlanta-area clubs and concert events, and they now look forward to playing their special brand of music throughout the Southeastern United States. SUPPORT LOCAL MUSIC AND ARTISTIC FREEDOM ... FIGHT CENSORSHIP AND BOYCOTT PAY-TO-PLAY!!!
Your influences?
Anything and everything from Sinatra, Martin and Davis to Emerson, Lake and Palmer to Tony Orlando and Dawn; from the Allman Brothers to the Osmond Brothers; from the Beatles to the Lennon Sisters; from Cream to the Supremes; from Robin Trower to Barry Manilow; but our music, sound and style are our own and no one else's!

We rock hard and boldly, but we're not afraid to add acoustic instrumentation when appropriate. A little variety is not a bad thing!
Favorite spot?
There's no place like Atlanta!
Equipment used:
For our guitarist/vocalist, a 20-watt Marshall combo amp is the weapon of choice. Michaels gets his tone through that amp without having to turn up to deafening volume. In a club, the engineer can always put a microphone in front of Elliott's amp speaker and run it through the house sound system and it works just fine! Elliott now plays a hybrid guitar, in that the neck is from a Kramer Stryker and the body is that of a Squier Affinity Stratocaster. It sounds and feels great. You don't always need expensive equipment if you have the know-how!
Anything else...?
Always do what you can to protect and strengthen our fragile First-Amendment right of freedom of expression. Oppose censorship at every turn!

Always be what YOU want to be and don't let anyone tell you how to feel. The philosophy "be yourself" is meaningless at best and downright authoritarian at worst! And the one thing about which I agree with my stepmother is, FEELINGS ARE NEVER WRONG. FEELINGS AREN'T ABOUT RIGHT AND WRONG. YOU FEEL THE WAY YOU FEEL AND NO ONE CAN TELL YOU NOT TO FEEL THAT WAY!
